Audio Help!!

Busy sorting out someone's Toshiba Satellite Pro A40, had a fair bit of malware and a virus on it. Got it sorted and is now running smoothely, However there is no sound. I can't remember if there was sound before I started!

Here's what I've tried so far

Basic audio/mute settings in windows and sound profile settings
Uninstalled drivers/reinstalled
Downloaded and installed new drivers from web site.
Disabled hardware in device manager then re-installed then reinstalled drivers
Tried playing DVD, CD's mp3's - no sound on any
Ran dxdiag - it found no problems -(apart from me telling it the sound didn't work)

Can anyone throw some light on it before I reach for those horrible restore disks and flatten the hard disk.

Have you tried pressing the mute button on the keyboard?

Yes.

Used the horrible restore disks. Still, I believe a complete re-install once in a while is beneficial.

Everything is working fine now.
