Question Audio from Youview box to older LG

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help with this issue. I'm having trouble getting audio from my Youview box to my tv. I have an older tv that has a dvi input, 2 scart inputs, and an mini jack audio input. No HDMI input. When I use a (brand new) scart cable from my Youview box to the tv I get a shaky picture. Audio is fine but the picture is shaky. When I use an HDMI cable the picture is fine but of course there is no audio. Is there a way to get audio from the SPDIF output on the Youview box to the audio input on the tv? I've tried a TosLink adapter cable and the SPDIF end of the cable out of the Youview box is fine but the mini jack end of the cable going into the audio input on the tv isn't the right kind of jack. It doesn't 'click' all the way into place.

Thanks.

What's your TV's model number?

Usually TV's with DVI inputs have an option in their software that allows you to select an audio input too.

Looks like the tv has a 3.5mm input jack

if so you need a 2x Phono - 3.5mm jack cable for the audio

You can get the user manual here
LG Support Search Results | LG U.K.

the attached pic is from the manual

hope this helps

According to your TV's user manual it has an (analogue) audio input between the 'DVI Input' port and the 'RGB Input' ports. It's most probably a 3.5mm stereo type.

Depending on the model of YouView box you have you might be able to use a basic '3.5mm to Twin Phono/Stereo Cable'.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. Yes, on the back of the tv is the 3.5 mm 'mini' jack. But, on the back of my Youview box, besides the SPDIF and antenna outs, I only have an hdmi out. So I can't use a '3.5mm to Twin Phono/Stereo Cable'/"2x Phono - 3.5mm jack cable for the audio" as suggested. In other words, there's not an output for audio on my Youview box.

What I have tried so far is this:
1. HDMI from Youview box to DVI into the TV for video, with a SPDIF out of the Youview box into the mini jack into the before mentioned audio jack on the tv for audio. The mini jack end of the SPDIF to mini jack cable doesn't click all the way into the mini jack input on the tv. The male end of this mini jack isn't long enough. All the cables I've seen look the same. (If you look closely at a picture of these SPDIF to mini jack cables - toslink cables - you can see that the mini jack end isn't the same as a normal mini jack. It's shorter.)

2. SCART from Youview box to tv but the picture shakes, or trembles, slightly. No good.

3. HDMI out of the Youview box into a 3-jack composite cable (red, white, and yellow jacks) into the corresponding jacks on the tv. This is "AV3". I get a "No Signal" message on the tv screen, so basically nothing. And yes, I've switched the AV settings to "AV3".

Option number 3, the HDMI to composite jack cable, was the option that I thought would finally work, but no luck.

Am I missing something completely obvious? I'm stumped.

What's the exact model of YouView box you have? Once we know this we can find out all it's output connections ;)

Okay thanks.

In that case I recommend you buy one of these SCART to Phono adaptors to connect to your YouView boxes SCART output. And then connect a '3.5mm to Twin Phono/Stereo Cable' to the adaptor.

First of all, thanks for all your help. Secondly, you say connect a 3.5mm to Twin Phono/Stereo Cable to the SCART adaptor, but wouldn't I need a composite 3-jack cable? Red, white, and yellow?

No,

You use the YouView boxes SCART output to provide 'analogue' audio to your TV (via the SCART to Phono adaptor and lead). And the YouView boxes HDMI output to provide 'digital' video to your TV (via the HDMI to DVI adaptor/lead).

Okay, that doesn't work. Maybe a faulty Scart to phono adaptor? It's a really cheap one I got off ebay, but to be honest, the more expensive ones looked exactly the same.
I've tried different cables and have made sure the Scart to phono adaptor is set to "output".

I've ordered another slightly more expensive adaptor to see if that's it. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Okay, I tried a different Scart to phono adaptor and still no luck. I am now officially stumped. If you have anymore ideas I'd love to hear them and thanks for your help.
