Are the usual "Dolby" formats analog only?

I have selected the digital output from my DVD player (Tosh 900E) to "Bitsream" and connected a coax cable btw player and my Denon 3801 and, still, the 3801 always selects "Analogue" when in "AUTO" input mode. Manual selection of the digital input mode to either DTS or PCM puts out no sound at all.

What are the available digital formats and how should I select them?

    Txs.

Have you setup the 3801 to use the co-ax input for the DVD input?

If you have it should selet the digital input correctly and indentify the correct digital sound format.

    Duh...You beat me into it.

Typical case of RTFM! The 3801 DVD digital input is factory default set to "Optical 1". Altough the manual is a mess, this particular bit is quite clear. I've chaged the input to "Coax" and everything works fine now (and, wow! how it works!)

Txs for the very, very quick reply, anyway.
