what headphones would be a good replacement for some el-8 open headphones? i like bass with impact that planar magnetics seem to do quite nicely and headphones that reproduce vocals quite well, which i seemed to find that the oppo pm-3 did a good job of that.

    any recommendations?

What do you consider is 'deficient' about the EL-8 that prevents you from keeping them?

A big crack on the left side of the headphones that I think will get worse over time, and I think it will annoy me more over time, it's not fully ideal hearing your "premium" headphones crack every time you take them off and put them on. Especially 7 months into owning them (damn eBay)

Plenty of bass available on my Oppo PM1s. I expect there is the same plenty available for the 2 and 3s. Comfortable as well.

Tbh if you Google audeze there are plenty of use reports about build quality issues with this brand

If you have heard oppo headphones and like them then by all means buy but bear in mind oppo have decided to exit the game and that will also affect after sale support

They can certainly handle the shrill offerings of Joni Mitchell with aplomb and are very melodic with voices such as Katie Melua and Laura Marling. Never fatiguing the PM1s offer both depth and detail. Seriously good on complex pieces of music. Strangely though they are quite forgiving on poor quality recordings but you'll just want to throw album after album at them. None of my other 'phones can get anywhere near their sonic performance.

Steven makes a valid point about Oppo leaving the market but they have pledged to have an excellent after sales service.
