Virgin media can go ***** themselves. First they take away Sky One, for the past fortnight, I've not be able to access half the internet, and now they're capping downloads too. I hope Branson sticks too much hot air in his balloon and floats off into space

Well that sucks. The day Bulldog do that is the day I tell them to poke their service (here's where someone tells me they already do!)

I wont over react until i see how, if at all i am affected. But considering I quite easily download more than 750mb every day i think i'll be spanked by this. In which case, I'll change ISP.

We're just going to have to try and download everything between 12am and 4pm, gives us 16 hours when we can download as much as we want!

    So your limits are:

Broadband Size: M - Download more than 350MB between 4pm and midnight and your line speed will be reduced to 1MB for 4 hours

Broadband Size: L - Download more than 750MB between 4pm and midnight and your line speed will be reduced to 2MB for 4 hours

Broadband Size: XL - Download more than 3GB between 4pm and midnight and your line speed will be reduced to 5MB for 4 hours

Well and truly not happy about this. I'm a long term 10MB subscriber and about to get the 20MB upgrade. So I could possibly hit my limit within 35 minutes before my line gets reduced to 5MB

If 2mb gets reduced to 1mb, and 4mb gets reduced to 2mb wont 20mb get reduced to 10mb?

Should mean better online gaming, but for those angry just keep your downloads on all day and turn it off in the evening. You dont do 3gb of bandwidth playing on XBL.

    This is bull:censored:

Whats the point of giving us super fast internet, then capping the service when they realise they cant cope with the traffic.

I hope my broadband bill will reflect these changes in speed when it comes ie, if i get taken down to 5 mb i only want to be charged for 5mb

    Jokers.

To be fair, they didn't "take away" Sky One, it was taken from them.

I would probably only hit that amount if I was downloading a demo to be honest so I will use next weeks dashboard update to full effect.

In the update is a new feature that you can turn on so that when you turn off the 360 when downloading it will go into low power mode and then switch itself off when it's finished.

What I'll do is either start the downloads around midnight time, or before I leave for work in the morning and let it switch itself off when it's done :)

Does anyone know when this comes into effect? I'm really REALLY hoping it's not before the Halo 3 Beta download comes out on the 16th

still a better deal than you can get with non unbundled adsl providers, grass deff is not greener.

One of my online mates is forever having lag issues on online games, they had to do sommat, 6 till 11 would of been fairer if they had to do it.

Not happy about this at all. This tresholds seemed to be unfair.
The XL (which I am currently) get 3GB which is just about ok.
Whereas the L size get 750MB
Which is not even one demo in most cases!

I understand they may need to monitor ridicluous downloads but 750MB
How about 1.5GB for the L users and say 750MB for the M users?

Have a feeling the marketing department has got involved in this technical problem (as usual). As I guess they think peoples answer will be to upgrade!

Sounds like a good idea was not aware of the new feature.
The changes seem to be taking affect as they roll out the new speeds, although whether they base this on your own area or if this is in a general way.
Mine is listed as 'to be confirmed'. This is probably the first time I don't want a speed increase anytime soon.

Im no expert on connection speed or really have any idea what they mean, all i know is i have the L bracket connection so from 12 midnight until 4pm is when i can download what i want but outside those hours my connection will get screwed?

My X360 is in my bedroom so there is no way i could have it on during the night as we are all well aware of how dam loud the thing is and im out at work from 8am until 5:30pm so that means i only have the weekends to download any demos that come out or leave it on during the day which i'd really rather not have to do.

Pretty much all the Marketplace demos are over 750mb, thinking about it is this not in effect already because it took me 5 hours to get the C&C3 demo but later on in the evening my mate got it in 40 minutes but i know loads of people who said it took them a few hours to get.

I agree with a fare use policy but the way they are implementing this isn't right. If you were to appear in their top five downloaders everyday, then I can see a problem, but not because you hit it once. From what i understand, if you do download more than that, then your service is halved until 4am.

I think once all the 10mb has been upgraded to 20mb, you will find it will only be half if you go over (most people are still on 10mb, make sense?)

I'm only on 2mb and can easily download more than 350mb in an evening, I'll just do it all over night and play on my Xbox in the evening.

They will review their policy if it causes too many problems.

As for the Sky 1 issue, I did quite well out of it, nice new V+ box and free phone calls.

No if you go over their set limit during the peak time (evenings) then you will have your connection halved from midnight until 4am. There are times lists on DigitalSpy

No, there have been quite a few over 750mb, some even over 1gb.

yes this could be a issue

i think the biggest problem is the upload speed changes

that could cause alot of problems (i.e GRAW2 comes to mind!)

i dont think many people will like this at all .....

I think this capping will only be applied to the constant top 5% downloaders, not just anyone who goes over 750Mb at one time (for broadband M) or that's how I read it (and I hope I'm not in that 5% ) but I still don't like it. What will be next? Sorry, you're spending too much time on the 'phone... Sorry, you're watching too much TV?!! They're making a big deal of the fact that they offer unlimited downloads and are doubling the 10mb service to 20mb then come out with this?!!!

If they can't cope with the amount of traffic they are getting why offer speed doubling? (And then restrict you for using it) If they cap your speed do you get a rebate on your bill? I think not.

I'm sure they wouldn't be saying it if it were illegal but I'd have to question whether they can offer (and the customer pays for) a service, then restrict it because, in their eyes, you are using it too much!

    :thumbsdow

been happening with ADSL for a couple of years now. And OFCOM have done nothing about it. According to them its fine aslong as they say they have some kind of restriction on downloads when they advertise.

not at all. it's just if you are on the 4mb service, once you've downloaded 750mb your line may be reduced in speed for 4 hours if it's between 4pm and midnite. you'll still be able to download a few gigs of data between 4pm and midnite - about 8 gigs roughly, nearly 2 dvdr's worth

if you are just using the connection for gaming, even downloading demos, it shouldn't have much effect

even if your on the 2mb service, you will still be able to download about 3.5gig at peak times with the slower 1mb speed, so you don't neceserally have to download offpeak, altho it'll be faster if you do

No, it says that any users that hit the limits will then have their download speed halved, not just the top 5%. Pretty lame really as they provide this service, say that only 5% of users actually use the service at its full potential, then say that 5% of users using it the way they say you can use it when you sign up is too much for their system. Limp.

what they are saying is that only 5% of users reach those limits, so whilst everyone who reaches those limits will have speeds decreased, it will be only 5% of users at peak time who's speeds will decrease

it should only really affect those that download a lot (even on the lowest package, 350gig is a fair amount of youtube or streaming media), or maybe those who are on a package a bit lower than they should be (ie on the 2mb package)

i have noticed my speeds in the evening have slowed right down and in the mornings and daytimes my speeds are outstanding.

thing is i want the faster times in the evenings as me and my kids have 3 360s online at the same time so we can play together !
