A pal of mine says he is getting Attack of the Clones on DVD from a company called Saga Quest.

How can this be as I thought I would be a while before its release.

Just had a look at their site:
[Site URL removed by admin because we don't want to promote illegal pirates]
The prices are good but are they all pirated?

All region DVDs for $10 or less? Pirates I think.

No doubt one orders the disc, then they make it.

(The availability of Star Wars: A New Hope is a bit of a giveaway - ok, possibly a VCD - but not with AC-3 as mentioned on the cover).

I wouldn't buy anything from them after seeing this notice :
Refunds will be given at the discretion of the sagaQuest Com .
The site is registered to someone in Kuala Lumpur. The English is not brilliant on the site, either.

    Definately pirates.

The Episode 4 disk is not a VCD, the source is, I believe, laser disc.

LOL :D I think we all know what "trade-relation with the master distributors" means... I'm sure they often wave at each other across a court room :D

'Attack of the clones' is probably the motto of this company :p

I've never understood why anyone would want to buy a VCD or a pirate DVD. We spend a great amount of money making sure our home cinema is 'just right' for our needs (including spending fair amounts of money on good quality cables) - why bother if we're only gonna end up with less than the best from pirate disks?

I take it you meant wouldn't in your earlier post then? ;)

Your mate will learn from his mistakes. He'll be kicking himself when he compares his pirate with someone else's original (maybe even before then). Hardly worth it for the sake of waiting a bit longer.

Yes Star Wars Episode I, IV, V & VI are available officially on VCD - but we're talking about Epsiode II here - which isn't.

I own the Star Wars OT on VCD and the quality is OK but it falls way short of DVD (and they're Pan & Scan).

As per a previous post of mine:

The site in question lists Star Wars, the cover of it states AC-3 sound. It is therefore NOT a vcd and IS therefore a pirate copy (presumably of the laserdisc)

I own starwars trilogy on vcd..not bad quality on a 4 inch portable tv...but i confess they're really dreadful when projected on a 80 inch screen...yuck..the quality really suffers on fast action scenes...scrambling effects.
    My videos are much better.

I can confirm that E4-6 are available on pirated DVD (copy of the LD version) in Malaysia and that they do indeed have AC-3 5.1 surround sound.

BTW: Those DVDs cost MYR15 (~GBP3.50) only in Kuala Lumpur.

I hardly think £10 is going to break anyones bank for a copy of ATOC on DVD., me mate picked one up as he was passing some bloke in oxford st. london..incredible i know..I don't promote pirates, but viewed it on my panny ae-100...yes the quality was that of a crap vcd...quality does diminish on a large screen though...still watchable..widescreen and some how anamorphic.. menus with music and pics, a gallery, subtitles..scene selections..now the sound was supposedly 5.1 ..strange..it wasn't although my dolby dig indicator lit up on my dvd...only in stereo folks.....can't wait for the official release! :D

It is nearly always the case with pirates of films not yet available for the home market that they have dolby digital bit stream outputs but only use the centre channel. Just because a sound source is outputting a digital bit stream, doesn't automatically mean it is 5.1 or better.

As someone said before, it's as good a reason as any to steer clear of them, dodgy picture coupled with mono or stereo sound, being played back on systems that have cost thousands. Doesn't make sense to me.
