Very much enjoyed this last night , Charlize is kick ass with a kick ass 80s soundtrack to boot it along . Still anything that starts off with one of my favouite Bowie tracks is gonna get me in the mood, even worked on Cat People :smashin:.

Watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it - great action, brutally realistic fights.
      Looked and sounded fantastic too.

A couple of grumbles - it really isn't necessary to show us Big Ben out of every window in London, just put a caption up, we'll believe you. ;)

And an absolute howler - McAvoy somehow manages to cram a large unconscious Russian into the front storage compartment (calling it a boot would be an exaggeration) of a Porsche 911 :rotfl:

In reality you can just about fit a small holdall.

Audio-visually was nice to watch, but i think there was just too much talk in the middle of it and i lost interest somewhere there... After that i had a feeling i am watching Kill Bill, but in the 3rd gear...
Not a bad, but not good either. To me it's just an above average action movie. Without Charlize probably already forgot it... :)

Also got the 4K iTunes, was $5 and looks great.

It's a really good movie as well, better than both John Wicks IMO.

      9.1/10

I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. One standout fight sequence is up there with the best I've seen in film. Really brutal and choreographed superbly. The colours were vivid when they needed to be and almost monochromatic in certain exteriors giving a nice contrast dependant on locale. One minor quibble is the peak highlights seemed to be reined in a bit, headlights in a dark street for example didn't give the impact I would have liked. Perhaps this is because I was watching HDR10 and not DV? That aside, a thoroughly entertaining watch.

HDR10 , DV would not make a difference in the peak brightness as it' the display that counts . In fact if one has a great display then the HDR10 and DV comparrison becomes somewhat mute . As stated in the review whilst not JW levels on HDR, WCG usage this does have some very nice moments . Nightclub scenes stood out for me and I did find some of the fight scenes crystal clear that added to bone crunching impact . Same can be said about the car chase scenes . That said its set around the monochrome background East/West Berlin that will and should look a lil drab. Deffo a keeper , put it on again today with the DTS X up , atomic .

Knowing nothing about the movie I kept waiting for her to go atomic.
I thought that was why there were the scenes with ice cubes in bath to cool her down until she did (and which this was leading up to).
I've watched too many super hero movies I guess. :(

Well I was GUTTED. I was expecting a documentary about Debbie Harry and one of my favourite bands but what I was treated to I really enjoyed. Picture quality I thought was great. The sound though, wow, brilliant, what a great mix. Love to see (a good) sequel

As an aside, how about AV Forums starts throwing the 4K iTunes versions into the disc reviews? They're hugely cheaper, and for upscales I can't imagine the PQ is much different. More work I know, but it would be interesting info to have, especially as some of the recent DV work on iTunes has been so poor.

Never thought I'd say it about an action flick but it had too many similar fight scenes with opponents that were crap at shooting or gave up guns in favour of fisticuffs in which she kept walking away from with far too little damage. It reminded me of John Wick a bit but rather worse. Her accent really grated on me throughout and so didn't help. And the end sucked up to the American audience over stupid and pompous Brits.
The music video style just overplayed for me. It was the kind of thing Tony Scott did occasionally better.

Managed to snag the last copy in HMV this morning. Will be watching this weekend. Only cost me £15 with a £5 off a 4K film voucher they gave me when I bought Spider-man two weeks back. Even better is another one printed off today so I will be putting that towards either T2 or Dunkirk. :D

I don't understand what the reviewer is trying to say with his sentence:
"Atomic Blonde decimates UK 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with an impressive HEVC / H.265 encoded 2160p transfer framed in the movie's original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.40:1 widescreen."
Decimate means to "kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of" and I don't see how that makes any sense in this context?

I thought the movie was bobbins but the UHD is an eye-popper, it may well not have the brightest HDR you'll ever see (the MaxCLL metadata pegs the highest peak at 600 nits) but it's still noticeably more zingy than the SDR Blu-ray and the colour, holy GOD the colour is incredible.

A problem is that Apple are using DV source files on some of the movies, which would then need to be tested/reviewed on both DV and non-DV TVs. As the Apple TV converts from DV to HDR10 on the fly (and doesn't do a very good job) I have ceased to buy any DV titles from iTunes, as they can be a real mess with heavy posterisation on a non-DV display.

The titles flagged as HDR look great, but stay well clear of DV titles unless you have a DV-capable display.

Interesting. I thought DV always had an HDR10 layer to fall back on? You should report this to Apple support. The front line is clueless but keep at it and you'll eventually reach someone who can contact the engineers directly.

No, there are various encoding profiles for Dolby Vision. Some are single layer Dolby Vision only, others are SDR + HDR, others are HDR10 + DV. The form used on UHD Blu-ray is indeed the latter because HDR10 compatibility is mandatory when including HDR on a UHD disc, Dolby is an optional format.

I've heard tell that the HDR10 version of these single layer DV streams can be the same 'file' as the DV but without the DV metadata, both use the same Perceptual Quantiser EOTF after all so it makes sense, but the problems with posterisation might stem from a shoddy 12-bit to 10-bit conversion on the fly.

Watched this the other day, really didn't enjoy it but it was a respectable disc in terms of sound and picture quality. First UHD I've moved on as I have no desire to watch it again. Disappointing for me.
