I tend to buy the 2nd best card (8800GTS over the GTX) for the reasons you have all mentioned, but as I have the extra funds, will be stepping up to the best single GPU card instead. Unless the missus finds something new to buy before the shops get stock of course....![]()
lolmy missus is the same, you could always get the HD5870X2, i'm sure razor will when it's out, then stick a block on it and add another 360 RAD
I'm well happy with my HD5850, I was gonna get the 4890 but decided to spend the extra, just waiting for Cyberlink to release that darn patch now![]()

But that was absolutely necessary to house all of the completely unnecessary components I had bought!!![]()
A Vapour-X 4890 was on my wants list for a while too - I very nearly bought a 4870 for £200 back in Feb before one of my LAN sessions, but luckily stayed my hand, then thought on the Vapor-X, then realised that 5 series was imminant, and thought to upgrade my rig from XP to 7 to get some DX11 goodness....
Had the 7 disk ready to upgrade for a few weeks now (Eductaional, so had it first week of October) just clearing a few things off my drive in preperation!
You go for it mate, get the best and then sit back and enjoy.
Its a good job these guys are not giving advice on how to pick a women.
Wolvers- Theydon dont go for Megan Fox she is too expensive to run. Go for Heather Mills she only has on leg so you will save money on shoes.![]()
Theydon, go for Megan '5850' Fox she isn't too expensive to run and will give you hours of fun. Don't go for Heather '5870' Mills she will promise a lot but is over priced and in the end she'll take all of your money in a bitter divorce settlement.

Oooo Megan Fox... I think I am having a funny turn.....![]()

The Asus bios that I listed earlier has a 1.5v and 1200mhz core limit. Greebo on the OcUK forum is reporting getting 1110mhz on the core with 1.5v stable with just 40C core temp.![]()
A full cover block is needed for those temps and especially to keep the VRMs cool though.
Well the only problem that can be is that not all the GPU's are as the ASUS ones, I mean the ASUS versions are tested and taken from "millions" of them, thats why are sold as ASUS with 1,5V voltage tweak.
You cannot transform a XFX,Sapphire,ETC into an ASUS versions just with the BIOS, thats my point![]()
Well Greebo's card was originally a Sapphire.
Bright Side of News reports that due to poor yields of TSMC's 40nm process AMD has been able to ship only in the very low five figure range of its ATI Radeon HD 5800 series. The site says availability will not significantly improve for weeks to come, and that AMD decided to raise prices by anywhere between $15-25 per card:
Getting back on the subject, we now know the real figures of just how many 5850, 5870, 5750 and 5770 boards AMD sold to its customers, and the number sure ain't pretty. Overall, the allocation of 5800 series is in the very low five figures. If we would compare this to the ATI Radeon 4800 or nVidia GeForce GTX 280 or 285 hard launches - the figures would not be "flattering" for the 5800 series. There are many problems in getting sufficient amount of boards, and the "blame game" does not exist here. It is solely laid on TSMC's inability to manufacture a sufficient amount of chips. One could debate that AMD didn't order enough chips, but if AMD got enough chips - they would not have this situation on their hands.
In order to address the chronic shortage of 5850 and 5870 boards [we heard multiple cases of backlogs being into millions of dollars], AMD decided to raise up the prices by anywhere between $15-25 per card, so the new prices of 5850 will be up from 279.99 to the originally planned $299 and when the stock refreshes, Radeon HD 5870 should go for $399.
