Thought I'd start a thread for us to put all of our chat, benchies and overclocks into. :)

Mine's arrived but I can't get it installed until Saturday. I know there's some peeps that have theirs already though. :hiya: (you know who you are booyaka!!:D)

yeah - got my shiney new 5850 today. Been mega busy at work so not managed to install. Running some tests on my 8800gt to get some benchmarks and then will install and do that same tests again.

Currently got

3dmarks vantage
3dmarks 2006
Res Evil 5 Benchmark

Anyone think of any others to run?

Personally, I'm more interested in game benchmarks rather than 3Dmark stuff. It'd be good if we could all use the same settings. Once we've decided on them, I'll add them to the first post. I'll just add those benchmarks mentioned so far.

There's a SF4 benchmark you know, I'll defo be using it! :D

taken from overclockers!

for all you 5850 users

MSI has released 5870 Bios that does clocks 1800 core 2600 memory bios that has been modified with the ATI software that signs the digital hash.

the same guy posted in the thread

*We used ATI official tool that provide to AIB to modifiy the BIOS setting and BIOS is digitally signed by ATI, sorry the tool can't be released publicly. And yes, we will apply it to MSI 5850 (also 2nd shippment of 5870, and future 5700 series).

We haven't receive mass production bios of 5850, I will release it once I have it.*

so we will be getting a 5850 MSI bios soon that you can flash to your cards with unlocked CCC limits and digitaly signed:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'll benchmark mine tonight and post the results here.

Something else interesting is that the 5850 has a higher vcore limit than the 5870 it would seem and they're already hitting higher clocks, like 1050mhz on the core.

Looking forward to the modified bios' appearing although I've never flashed a gpu bios before.

Edit; Added some links to the first post.

Booyaka, Very interested to see your results, I am after a 5850 myself, and have a Q6600 to go with it, upgrading from a 640Mb 8800GTS. Here are my 3dmark 06 scores for comparason (not run a new test for a few months, hence the reference to the older nvidia drivers):

3DMark Score 12,533 Marks

SM 2.0 Score 5122 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 5039 Marks

CPU Score 4663 Marks

Spec: Intel Core Quad Q6600 OC to 3Ghz, 4Gb Corsair 1066mhz RAM, PCI-E 8800GTS 640Mb GPU ([email protected]/1389/885) on XP 32 bit with v182.50 NVidia Drivers

Comments: [Feb09] Overclocking the GPU gave around 10% increase, and the OC on the CPU gave another 10%. I tested the GPU overclocks with FurMarks for an hour, and the CPU overclock with a quad core stress test for 12 hrs on Prime95. Been running everything with no problems.

Lucky people!

I've recently bought a 4850 and am very happy with it.
(Can't afford a 58** yet :()

I wouldn't mind seeing some in game benchmarks ...

will be home this afternoon and installed then. your score appears to be about the same from what i can remember of the 3dmarks 06 figures that i got the other night when i benchied my 8800gt.

Will install 5850 and advise later today. However 3dmarks 06 is not really a good guide to gfx power it's cpu and gfx related whereas Vantage is more gfx related. Will run tests anyway!!:D:D

I wil get Vantage then I think to try that, before and after. Heres hoping my backdated 1% comes this payday, as a shiney 5850 will be added to the shopping cart.....er assuming I find one! Scan and Overclockers dont have any in stock

Contents - card, xfire connector, dvi/vga connector, 2 molex to 6pin pci-e power leads and usual manual/cd etc

Card itself

Card size shown against 8800gt (just fractionally longer)

Card in situate. Need to sort out watercooling when blocks start to arrive for 5850.

Anyway, simple procedure of driverclean etc to remove old nvidia drivers, reboot and install ATI drivers downloaded from AMD website (never bothered with cd).

Install fine first time. Initial things to note, very quiet stock cooler - really impressed with that as usually they are damn noisey things. Can't be heard over my existing rad fans etc.

Anyway onto some benchies for those that are interested.

  • 3D Marks 2006

Q6600 @3.5ghz, 4gb ram etc.
8800gt at stock speeds (600/900)

13333 points
sm2.0 - 5587
sm3.0 - 5198
cpu - 5020

5850 @ stock speeds

18350 points
sm2.0 - 7075
sm3.0 - 8934
cpu - 4992

Good solid increase but not the best gfx power test as mark06 is fairly cpu dependant still

  • 3D Marks Vantage

same speeds as above

8800gt

31735 cpu
5381gfx

Total score - 6791

5850

12189 cpu
13378 gfx

Total score - 13060

Double the score from the 8800gt to the 5850.

Resident Evil 5 benchmark
1680x1050 & 4x AA (all the rest set to high), fixed test

8800gt - 40.1FPS average
5850 - 77.7FPS average

Again a good/85% increase.

Overall impressions - very pleased, very quiet cooler for stock in windows and still very quiet when benching. Will improve no doubt with lots of clocking options starting to appear like modded bios's etc.:thumbsup:

Will head off to play some games for a bit now i think!!!!

Not got crysis installed so can't run that bench mark for the time being!

Hi could you tell me what setting you run Vantage at..always confused me, do you run test with the native resolution of you monitor etc or is there just a default test to run without you having to change anything in options.

Depends on the vantage version you have, i.e demo or full version. I think (will check) i ran it at 1280x1024 as this is the fairly standard ressy for 3d marks tests. will check the rest shortly

I misread this and thought the first score had the 5850 in it and thought 13k? Thats not much more than what I had now. Then a second later saw the 18k mark, huzzah!

This is very close to my mates non OC'd i7 with a 4870x2!

also that is the gfx card at stock speeds with the first set of drivers out. Will get some clocking done and as the drivers mature they will help as well.

Played some NFS:Shift last night with 16xAA and 8xAF on (everything else on high settings as well) and it's stunning looking and super smooth!!!!:thumbsup:

Congrats Booyaka, I read your mini review on another site last night. :smashin:

I get just over 25k on my 4870x2.

Running a 4870X2 with a stock 920 i7 bottlenecks the card, tell your friend to get clocking. ;)

3Dmark06 scores are heavily impacted by CPU performance.

Yes they are but the 4870x2 is also heavily impacted and bottlenecked by a slow cpu. ;)

I get about 18k in Vantage. :)

I've added the MSI 5870 bios to the OP. No sign of the 5850 one yet but they say they will release it soon.
