I have updated my BIOS in my ASUS from:

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

and in this BIOS it says:

N4L-VM DH BIOS 0905
1. Speed up VISTA S3 resume speed
2. Enable support for SMBIOS V2.4
3. Fix Quick resume device not present under VISTA system
4. Update JMicron option rom V1.06.64
5. Enable EIST support under VISTA

and I have been though the Media Centre config and said YES to enabling the AWAY MODE technology. Only problem now is...

How do I put Vista into AWAY MODE ??

With my MCE 2005 setup all I had to do is press the power button on the front and it would go into away mode (power lights would flash).

Anyone else got this board and have any ideas ?

EDIT: Just seen this download - Looks like I might need to download the ViiV 1.6 from Intels site:
http://support.intel.com/support/desktopplatforms/viiv/sb/CS-025427.htm
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2223&OSFullName=Windows+Vista*+Ultimate%2C+32-bit+version&lang=eng&strOSs=156&submit=Go%21

Its interesting that this download is only for 32bit windows (good job I chose that version!)

UPDATE2:

Looks like the link above needs 1.5 installing before it can be installed but 1.5 doesnt install in vista. I managed to find a 1.6 standalone installer from gateway - see the 6th post from tzherukh in the following link:
http://softwarecommunity.intel.com/isn/Community/en-us/Forums/thread/30229971.aspx

UPDATE:

Looks like all I needed to do is just enable a registry key. Ignore the ViiV download stuff above (it puts an annoying ViiV thing in the taskbar which is useless anyway).

Have a look at this word doc link:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/c/5/9c5b2167-8017-4bae-9fde-d599bac8184a/AwayMode.doc

and look at the section on page 8 about "Enabling Away Mode in the Windows Registry".

quote:

Away Mode can be permanently enabled in Windows Registry. When Away Mode is enabled in the Registry, applications do not need to request Away Mode to be enabled by using the SetThreadExecutionState API.
Enabling Away Mode in the Registry is explicitly designed for scenarios where the system manufacturer has designed the PC and its preload software to behave like a set-top box. When Away Mode is enabled in the Registry, any Sleep power action causes the system to enter Away Mode

Anyone else using Away Mode and Vista ??

Interesting stuff about Viiv 1.5/1.6...

Anyway, I just enabled 'Quick Resume' in my Dell BIOS, Vista detected 'new hardware' and downloaded a driver for the Quick Resume hardware.

In the advanced Sleep options you now have the choice of Away Mode rather than just Sleep. I'm using it now, but I'm not sure what benefit I'm getting - it just works!

Thanks - I dont seem to be able to find this. Exactly where abouts is this option ?

I can put my system into Sleep and when checking the event log it does say that its entering "Away Mode"

Did you set this up :
