It's a pity i'm not in Spain at the moment, so I could see whether I can receive any channels or not.

I'll have to contact some of the neighbours, and ask how their channels are performing.

Indeed, posts from anyone in the areas most affected, will be most helpful in establishing the effect on viewers in the marginal areas.

This is the claimed footprint for 2E

Just the same artist's impression graphic (& for 2G), no help until it lights up then & if too many people supply reception reports, the engineers might just try to tweak it accordingly if they can. I know what I'd be doing if I was back in Spain

Well, it looks as though relying on a TV reception from 2E isn't going to be a good bet.

Trying to stop miss guided helpful individuals providing reception reports would be impossible.

I presume there will be a big shake up with the TV re-broadcasters.

    Graham,

    I presumed Spain was getting a reception more like this;

What I did not realise is there are different spot beams coming from the Astra satellite. I havn't looked into any of this until now. From what I can gather though, is no-one knows for sure at the moment how the signal, or spot beams are to be altered.

Bytheway Graham, I have sent you a PM yesterday. I don't know if you have had a chance to look at it, but if you could offer some advice, I would really appreciate it.

That's not the UK spot beam footprint. Eutelsat28A has a similar wide beam footprint.

eutelsat 28a footprint - Google Search

I will have a look later at your conversation.

These are they-->> SES/Astra & EUTELSAT - a dozen in total but not all active or long term.

28e reception in Spain is a little like 7w/26e reception in the UK with some fundamental differences - the most interesting [to me] is there are all those very strong beams into Spain etc.. at 28e too but not so at 7w or 26e into the UK [except the slightly stronger E7WA & BADR4 beams]. So if you aim a big dish at 28e from there, you are also likely to be overloading on the beams that only really need a 60cm & that also causes bleed over/ second (etc.) harmonics issues plus overload of filters/ amps etc. etc while you're just trying to get at the weak stuff.

A load of Sky encrypted channels was transferred to 2E's Pan European beam last night. Nothing fta or freesat related as yet (afaik)

When they word it like that it's as though they don't really want to restrict signals to expats .... but if that was the case then they'd have just used a pan European beam with a decent leg down to the Canaries.

The adage, more viewers equals more advertising revenue must factor into someone's equation's - surely. Obviously, not the BBC's, but I am sure advertising will feature in their model for the future at some point.

Advertising income for a few extra viewers vs the Rights Holders Fees for Europe ratther than just UK?
If the figures stacked up in any way Sky would be happily selling subs overseas.

There's several more frequencies moved over to 2E overnight & reports so far say they have improved reception for France/ Spain & even the Canaries have improved, but the tight UK beam frequencies are between 10714 H & 11428 H unless anything changes those are the ones to watch.

FLYSAT 28e & see right hand column in yellow - moved to 2E.

80-90 channels including BBC channels/ Sky channels & a few ITV regions moved over to 2E overnight on the actual tight UK spot beam & there's several early reports from around Spain/ Portugal etc.. of signal drop including several with complete loss & a few reports of similar reception.

Drop off here in the south of France. Just got home and turned on the TV, BBC HD channels have no signal and normal channels have gone from 90% quality down to 50%.

    I'm on a 85cm dish for info.

Rubbish weather around here recently, so I'll get on the roof to check alinement tomorrow and see if I can get them HD channels back.

It was once a black spot for UK reception but there's been other reports that it's faired quite well or it's because it was a black spot so there's some bigger dishes there already.

After this winter, going back to Spain or at least over winter months has crossed one's mind a few times :suicide:

    Several more channels have been moved over to 2E overnight - namely ITV 1s (all regions I think) ITV 2 3 4 & + 1s / CITV / Channel 4s / E4s / More 4s / Film 4 & + 1 with the same sort of signal drops (outside the UK) being reported.
