    Supermarket salvation?

According to a report in The Sun (yes, OK) ASDA is looking at a take-over deal to save HMV.

The supermarket chain has been in discussions with HMV's administrators, Deloitte about putting together a bid for the brand. The same report says that Asda could be in a head to head battle with Hilco, a company built on its restructuring know-how.

Despite the beleaguered state of the business, HMV still employs around 2,400 staff in its remaining 120 stores but a deal needs to be concluded within the next two weeks when HMV will be presented with a huge rent bill.

A City source speaking to the Sun said: “Asda has been looking at HMV and it’s not about taking on a few stores to convert into supermarkets. They’ve been looking at taking on the brand — the business.”

Both Asda and Deloitte refused to comment.

    Could be interesting.

Most supermarkets have a couple of shelves handed over to CDs, DVDs, etc. could we see mini branches of HMV in Asda stores?
