    and the usual stuff.

Also in the box it has a wall mounting kit included.

lol why have you marked it down for connectivity????

DVI is the future, its component thats the inferior input.
the only thing thats going to be component is the xbox 1.5 (sorry... i mean the 360)

    I love DVI.....

but I love component too.... my (oldish) Sony DVD player puts out a beautiful R1 525P / R2 625I picture... at 106 inches wide through my Panny AE500, it's actually not that far off the DVI picture!! (the Panny has DVI too).

Still, at this price, it's a miracle to get EITHER!!!

Huddersfield ASDA had the DUAL 26"LCD with speakers on the side (making it 91cm wide) instead of this one which is 57cm wide.

Perhaps the model is different around the country?

    I'd just like to say......

.....this is NOT the unit for sale at the ASDA where I work.

It has speakers at the side, and I could NOT find one with the same specifications on the www.quelle.de website.

The manual itself is entirely in German, and the unit is described as:

    "Universum FT LCD 8146".

Was running my PowerBook G4 via DVI through it today, absolutely stunning.
Rock solid. Sadly, a 1280x768, so 15:9, but DVDs were still brilliant despite the bars at top and bottom.

Interestingly enough, I also ran PixelCheck, and the screen had NOT ONE SINGLE DEAD PIXEL (always on, always off or erroneous luminance response)
I have earmarked it for myself, despite being a display model!! :D

For the money, quite simply, the best there I have seen anywhere.

What are the blacks like on the set ? Anybody else bought one ? ASDA at Linwood, near Glasgow had a pile of them at the door. There were none on display but one kind helper showed me one that was in an open box. Compared to the ACER 2671 that I had for a while it looked slightly plainer construction. All silver with no black border. From what I could see it looked a bit thicker than your average LCD TFT. That is not really an issue if it produced a good picture. The ASDA chap said it came with a 1 year guarantee. During that time if anything goes wrong you can take it back to any ASDA store for a refund or replacement. There seemed no problem buying it, trying it and taking it back for a refund if not suitable. Also the wall bracket looked quite good.

Yeah the wall bracket is good, the blacks are quality as well no sign of that stupid grey you get, i was playing Rainbow Six on my xbox and the blacks were bang on.

Its not any bigger than the average lcd tv to be honest. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

Well I guess someone has got to ask the question :) HDCP??. I've noticed this tv in my local asda store and it is very tempting although the lack of component for my xbox is a bloody pain same goes for the dvd player I use both in progresive at the mo with my panny projector but you can't use the proj al the time and a decent 26" would be a nice backup.

    Guthy

I might change my mind though is someone can recomend a component to vga/dvi lead that would allow me to use the prog sig on this tv.

I wonder if anyone has been able to find the site of the manufacturers. The brand name was one of a well known turntable manufacture (HiFi). I can't find any info.

Heres a ropey picture I took with my camera phone in Chavsda if its of use to anyone...
Unfortunately it was inside a perspex box which made comparison with the Philips next to it (which cost £200 more) impossible.

EDIT - Went back today to have another look (and look for the rumoured 20" model). Didn't find the 20" and didn't buy the 26" either (a bit too expensive/large for the bedroom) Took a better pic though so swapped it over.

Bought one of these (last one in store) - hooked up to PC via DVI and the picture quality is stunning to say the least. I have ordered a vga convertor (and hi def kit) for my xbox and a vga out convertor for my iMac, althout I'm not so sure how a the 64mb graphics card in the iMac will handle it.

I believe that Asda also have a Dual 20" LCD. I wonder if someone who is visiting can confirm if this is a Widescreen set?

I also would like to know what picture stretch options these TVs have. With the 26" TV being 15:9 I wouldn't really like it just to default to the fill the screen option (resulting in vertical stretch) - I would also prefer the option to have horizontal black bars top and bottom.

Just seen one of these running in the Chandlers Ford (nr Southampton) store. Playing Ice Age (I think) on own brand cheapie DVD running through Scart.

Picture quality is very good - but no remote so unable to mess around with it.

Bough one of these on Firday night, I took back my Sonix the night b4, wow what a difference this makes. DUAL make very fine sound equipement as well.

    Build Quality (8.5/10)

    DVI Apple Mac (9/10)
    DVI PC (9/10)

    HD MOV SAMPLES (9/10) (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/hdgallery/)
    HD WMD SAMPLES (9/10) (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/ContentShowcase.aspx)

SKY - SCART - Good Contrast and Brighness ,nice crist clean picture.
XBOX - SCART Played various games a little brighness was needed for halo2 and the picture seems a little blurry but response times were great.

Im very pleased with the overall quality of this compared to my first LCD budget buy the 26inc Sonix from Sainsburys. The dual is a much better unit allround.

Just bought one of these and compared to my tevion 32" from Aldi this is far better by miles.

    In comparrison

    BUILD TEVION 7/10 DUAL 9.5/10
    SOUND TEVION 7/10 DUAL 8.5/10
    PICTURE TEVION 6/10 DUAL 9/10
    MENU TEVION 9/10 DUAL 8/10
SPLIT SCREEN TEVION 0/10 DUAL 10/10
    CONNECTIONS TEVION 5/10 DUAL 8.5/10

If you are thinking of getting one then go do it now before they sell out as I think these may just be in limited supply.
BTW it is a german make, it is not a Dual as such as in the HI-FI sense. It is rebadged for Asda as Schneider was. In the UK many years ago Dual was top quality, as was Schneider in Germany but the companies close down and the names get sold on to other companies and are reused again.

I have reserved one of these at the Leamington branch for collection tomorrow evening.

Can you (or anyone else!) tell me what it is like when playing 16:9 DVDs on this 15:9 screen? Do you get thin bars at top and bottom or are things stretched vertically?

    Thanks

Is it me or is there not a lot of space to plug things in the back. I had a bugger of time putting in a DVI cable, and as for the XBOX scart convertor (converts composite to scart) forget it - it's physical too big. Not a problem since I've order the XBOX VGA convertor from vigi (or whatever they called) - just thought I'd point it out.

yeah theres not a lot of room, ok if its on the wall though.

as for the 16:9 question - you can have it how you want, you can stretch it shrink it or have it as the dvd player sends it (auto).

Can you use higher resolutions than 1280x768? What happens if you configure 1920x1080 for example? Does it downscale to the native res?

    Thanks
