"The whole country is watching you. They just don't know it."

With all the Bonds, Bournes and Mission: Impossible tales out there, it is sometimes hard to come back down to earth to watch real life events unfold. We are so desensitised by the wild action and adventure - no matter how much these franchises, to varying degrees, attempt to ground themselves in reality - that the real exploits of spies seem positively mundane by comparison.

Argo tells the greatest true mission impossible story. Despite the fictional flourishes used to heighten the tension, and the dark and witty underbelly of the script, this is what really happened; a stunning piece of courageous but understated spy-work - an impossible mission perpetuated by a real-life super-spy. And to think, if the files had not been declassified a few years ago, we might have never known what really happened...

      It's...

I thought this was a good movie if not an Oscar best film award. The thing I was most disappointed about is that half of the key events in the movie didn't actually happen...

True but that's what's called artistic licence and it was a film and not a documentary. That's why we get based on a true story.

I bought and watched this on Friday and I was a little doubtful as lots of reviews said it was a bit slow........how wrong they were!!

I watched the extended cut and thought it was great, good story, great acting and very tense at the end, I have been renting rather than buying lately but glad I bough this one!!

I didn't catch this on it's theatrical release but I bought the BD last week.
Excellent film that runs along at a good pace with some great scripting & excellent acting, in particular Alan Arkin, John Goodman and a very good understated performance by it's star & director Ben Affleck.
      OK the
end scene at the airport does does turn it a little into Speed
but it's not too OTT for a Hollywood film. Also liked the ending as it is not too tub-thuming & President Carter's short narrated summary during the end titles is very moving.

      A good solid thriller/human story. 8.5/10 :smashin:

      Reallly good movie. Surprisingly enjoyable.

Very surprised how balanced it was, in admitting the Americans weren't 100% faultless.
