Just been watching Sky Sports News on my new 37PV500. As the right hand side has a white bar I noticed that there was a dot on the screen.

On closer expection I saw that it was a stuck coloured pixel !

Please please tell me that this can be sorted easily ??!?? Are there any swipe or whitewash functions available on the PV500 ? It has only been in use since last night !

I am starting to think I am doomed in my quest to buy a plasma !

I connected my PC into my PV500 and noticed it had a light blue stuck pixel.I was a bit annoyed when I first saw it and to be honest when I use Sky/consoles/DVD player I've never noticed it since.I'm sure I could find it but it doesn't bother me at all now.

I read many forums/websites relating to the problem and came to the conclusion that many plasma's suffer from stuck pixels, some with more than one stuck pixel. One pixel will be within panasonics threshold but I'm sure if you can't live with it they may exchange the screen but you may well have stuck pixels on this one too.

What I'm trying to say is you are not alone and it's a problem with plasma/tft screens in general. Tell your supplier you want someone to take a look at it and in the meantime try to ignore it while you wait for a service engineer and I'm sure you'll find it pretty insignificant.

From what I've read and heard, the danger to get stuck pixels is lower on plasmas than on LCD, but it's still there.

A stuck pixel isn't the same as a dead pixel. I seem to remember reading that some manufacturers have an allowance for dead pixels but even 1 stuck pixel can be considered a fault. I'd speak to panasonic and ask them, just make sure you clarify that it's a stuck pixel.

I have had the screen running for 1 day, it must have been like this out of the box.

As the pixel is coloured, will it mean it is stuck or dead or doesn't it matter what colour it is ?

I know it is going to bother me because you can quite clearly see it in the middle of the screen on a light background.

It's stuck, not dead... but I would certainly be annoyed by it too! Get an engineer to look at it.

If it's coloured i believe that means stuck. If it was dead, it wouldn't light up in any colour.

There's a download available on the web which supposedly unsticks pixels by flashing coloured patterns on the screen.I've tried it on mine but it didn't work, it may work on your PV500 give it a go

There is no telling with stuck pixels, I've known 3 stuck ones to come back to life, so all hope is not dead. Several other members have had them in the past, I think Jasonjo has a red one stuck somewhere on his PW6. I would definitely 'try it on' with the supplier, you never know your luck. They may offer a replacement?

Thanks for the help guys, I will give them a ring and see what they say. Just a pain as it is up on the wall now.

Are there any swipes or screensaver options on the PV500 then ? I couldn't see any in the menu.

Korum, do you have a link to that download ?

I spoke to Currys and they pretty much said what I thought they would say and that was that it was not deemed a fault as they allow for at least 1 stuck/dead pixel !

Is there anything I can do to sort this out as I know it is going to drive me nuts if it is left as it is !

Have a real close look and make sure that it is just one stuck pixel, you may be lucky and there may be 2 stuck next to each other. If that is the case then the screen may be out of spec and should be replaced.

You shouldn't really notice one dead/stuck pixel too much at 10'

    Good luck.

What you need to do is find a way of making some more stuck pixels.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I have pretty much had my nose to the panel looking at the pixel and it is most definitely just 1 pixel.

    :(

From 10' it is not that noticeable but when the background is a light colour you can notice it. The thing is, I know it is there now if you know what I mean. I will notice it all the time !

I'm installing for the mother in law next weekend, I'll drop it by.

On second thoughts, I'll do it on the way home, I may need it whilst I'm there.

I know I have had problems in the past with a stuck pixel on a tft computer monitor (bright red on a 17" tft is really noticeable).

However I did manage to get rid of it by gently tapping the screen around the pixel and then on the pixel and it faded then went away - obviously don't tap too hard !!!

Try and 'tap massage' the screen - you may get it to come unstuck.

Mm, doesn't seem to be working on the green pixel on my 19" TFT.. nice suggestion though. I'll keep tapping occasionally :)

How is it apart from that, compared with the LG?

there's a few pages on the web that advice flicking the stuck pixel with your fingernail which can unstick the pixel. Not a tap but a sharp pinpointed flick. Trouble is that advice was for TFT screens where the screen is squashy. My plasma has a hard glass screen.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am going to see if I can find that download on the Internet which flashes thru colours on the screen to see if I can get it to move. I am still on to Currys to see if something can be done about it.

You are right mate, I am doomed I tell thee !

    :suicide:

Apart from that, I am very happy with it. Xbox in HD is bloody gorgeous I have to say ! Been playing SC3 loads and the detail is astonishing !

I am currently playing DVDs on my PS2 thru RGB Scart and the quality is pretty good. It varies from DVD to DVD as Gladiator looks great but then Scrubs Series 1 looks a little solarised TBH.

I have NTL which is not as good as Sky but some of the high bandwidth channels are fantastic and then there are some channels which look terrible.

All in all, I am chuffed with it. It is not the best looking plasma in the world and it is 'chunky' but it does everything I want it to. Just cannot wait for Xbox 360 now, it is going to look gorgeous on the PV500 !

Let's just hope I can sort this pixel out as I can see it driving me mad. Maybe I will grow to love it and think of it as a 'feature'.............

I know if you leave the screen on, on the av with no feed the Panny has an auto screen saver kick in, perhaps this may shift it. Soory I cant think what av number it did this, perhaps all.

OK, I have managed to take some photos of the stuck pixel. Apologies for the large images but it was the only way I could get to show it.

I used to have a few stuck pixels on my TFT at home, one day it just dissapeared, i've heard about playing fast paced images on the screen can sometimes fix them and the only thing I could think of was that I started playing Unreal tournament 2003 and Battlefield 2 alot, it was an annoying bright blue dot.

Also i've had a few on a laptop which have been rubbed out by massaging the screen as already suggested.

There is a lovely red one smack bang in the middle of my PSP screen too, i've tried rubbing it through the plastic but cannot seem to get it to go away. I will try the pixel fixing video clip thing on my PSP using a converter but it seems that the converter crashes every time i try, probably because its an MP4, not sure though.

The file is here if you want to try it
