Are you going to stop buying games on release day, because of the live issues?

It's definately crossed my mind. I suppose it depends on the game and what else I have to play at the time.

I think I may wait for feedback from other forum members before purchasing a game I'd want primarily for multiplayer, yes. Either that or buy it from a store with a good returns policy.

Actually I should say I wont buy games that I cant customise controls to how I want it rather than the live issue, though that pees me off as well

a lot of people including myself are getting really :censored: off with being unpaid beta testers, c'mon MS sort it out NOW. (why not open up the halo2 multiplayer code as that works a treat!)

Also think they should be honest and say if a game requires a minimum upload for a certain number of players e.g. 512k
    256k just isnt enough anymore:(

You could play on 256k:eek: I didn't think that was ever enough for even the original Xbox Live. I always thought you needed to have 512k minimum to play Xbox or PS2 online, guess I was wrong.

think he was referring to 256k upload which is what most people on 1 or 2 meg broadband have.
512k download was the min broadband required to play xbox live and ps2 online as it is the basic broadband d/l speed.

people aren't able to play the current 360 games on live to the full with 256k upload which is annoying a lot of people(me included)

You're thinking of download speeds I think there Tetlee - I think Chillo was referring to uploads. There's no doubt the upload speed is the single biggest barrier to decent online gaming now.

No, I'll still be buying them on release as *touch wood* I've had no issues with Live (apart from one that was self inflicted). Although I will make the disclaimer that I mostly play with people on my friends list and have 10meg cable and so do most of the hosting myself.

The live issues are offputting, but if there's a game I know i'll going to like, i'm still gonna go for it.

It helps alot if you buy it from somewhere that you know you can take it back if it has issues or is just plain rubbish - PD0 went back straight away!

I buy all my games from my local GAME store, the extra you pay compared to online retailers doesn't bother me (especially as I don't buy that many anyway), the piece of mind is worth it. Plus also I know the manager and the guys working there so I can usually get some kinda deal :)

The issues I have experienced in COD2 on live have been frustrating, but I have got alot of enjoyment out of the game nonetheless. I have only had problems on GRAW twice, but have mostly been playing Co-op with only a few people; overall though I am still very plesed with my purchase.

It would definately make a big differnece if I bought something like BF2, which would be useless to me offline, and this had serious live issues. It would go straight back to the shop! If I were buying games online I would definately consider delaying my purchase until I knew there were no live issues.

I'm certainly hanging back on Pro Evolution Soccer after the online shambles of the last 2 versions on Xbox. It should be the best game on live but I never play it unless I'm playing someone on my friends list as it's left too open for cheats.

I still play Pro Evo 5 most nights still, and I think shambles is stretching it. It's not perfect for sure, but I still haven't had a disconnect before the end of the game from an opponent. Plus now I have a decent connection and choose to play only english players, I get a lag-free game almost always.

Dont think i'll be buying any new games until the resident wookie( Van Owen) or someone else posts feedback, not being able to host more than 6 on GRAW is really starting to grip my sh1tt3r, i know my average upload is only 400k but that should be plenty, lazy programming if you ask me.

My PS2 is long gone now after I hadn't used it for a year. I'd be surprised if the netcode was any better than the other versions too...

You're lucky then. I gave up when people high up kept lagging it out or quitting near the end to avoid losing too many points. It became pointless to play random opponents just for the odd few that played fairly. Then there's the crappy optimatch which doesn't work properly and only seems to work to any degree once you refine the search parameters and even then you aren't guaranteed that the session will still exist.

If anything, I would say that shambles is not a strong enough description. If it was their first effort then it would be more excusable but lag and quitters were problems that they had with PES4. We got shoddy optimatch as a bonus this time.

PES5 is the only reason I still get my PS2 out every now and again. The net code on the PS2 seems to work fine.

I experience lag probably 1 in 10 but apart from that, it's fine.

Its a catch 22 situation though. As the developer they cant account for big Live problems till its out of the door as they cant get that volume of testers. I just think its something where going to have to accept with any online play (you get it all the time with PCs).

Offline single player though they have no excuse but for it to be right out of the door.

It certainly wont stop me rushing out to get a game as soon as it is released when I want it.

But then I prefer to at least get used to the controls/game for a day or two before venturing out into online play and being utterly useless *rotf*

GRAW has put me off buying on launch from now on.

I will leave it to the NIC Official games launch tester when FarCry is released to see if he gives it the thumbs up:smashin: but for anything else I will be reading on here to find out about any problems first!

No I'll still get my games when I want them [mostly release day]

I guess having played pc's for years I'm used to game crippling bugs:rolleyes: .

And TBH I still judge a game primarily on the single player experiance. To me it seems devs are focusing too heavily on the mp aspect and neglecting the single player game. Now whilst I enjoy playing people over the internet, if the sp experiance is good than that is what I'm most concerned about.

The problem with most launch games is not the game itself but our
***** UK broadband. While some games have ace network coding
like PDO others are designed for rest of the world BB with uploads
    of 1Meg as standard.

I to was miffed that GRAW would only let you host six if you were
lucky, even thought about taking it back. However when played on
a European 1Meg upload connection its ace, 16 peeps in one game
    with no probs at all.

So you see its as much lazy coding as it is our crappy broadband we
    have in the UK.

It is a right pain being unofficial 'beta testers' but the only thing that will eventually stop me buying games on the release date is their price.

Generally I like to play through a game and get used to playing it before still getting my butt whooped online

If it is a really big release that I really want to get (Halo 3 for example) then new it will be, if not I'll wait and pick it up as cheap as I can get it

Also, they can't test it on the full live network before release, they use Patnernet which should be an accurate simulation but as we all know, there's nothing like the real thing.

It's not an issue as long as they acknowledge problems and fix them, which is where my complaint goes back to Konami and Pes 5...
