Are These DVDs Really Hi Definition?

No, DVD can't handle the bitrate of HD.

you need "HD-DVD" which I don't think you were asking? or BluRay. Neither of which can be had yet as has been mentioned. Or a PC running HD media files.

It's a WMV-HD of which there are quite a few around like T2 and Gangs of New York, can only be played on a PC or a few stand-alone decks.
