I have just bought a brand new Xbox 360 and was hoping to have one of the new "quieter" drives, but I have the old Hitachi drive.

Can anyone confirm that the new ones are much quieter, or is there not much difference.

Is it worth me sending my 360 back and buying another one.

Some people say yes the newer drives are quieter but then you get people on here who have both a 360 with an older drive and a newer driver and they say they sound exactly the same.

Had a Hitachi in my core - was noisy, very in fact.

Sold the core and got a premium with a Samsung, still noisy, but not as noisy as the aircraft sounding Hitachi was.. even my Mrs commented on the Hitachi as she walked past and I hadn't said a thing about noise. Even she can tell the Samsung is a bit quieter with the same games.

I think you can tell by the serial numbers, but mainly it's pot luck if you get one. Mine came from Amazon Germany. They had an offer on.
