I know the contrast is meant to be better; 500:1 vs 700:1 but does that mean the blacks are better?

And how much of a difference is 500:1 vs 700:1 when watching movies?

dunno bout the 100 but i got my 200 today and the black levels were acceptable, not great and can't compare to dlp pj's, but the overall performance was devastating!
    check my review

the threads name is:Cheapest place to buy a panny PTAE200e from ?
in the lcd and dlp forum, my mini review is at the bottom, some bloke put some screenshots of it on, the pics really do not do the 200 justice one bit, once i have got my setup all together, probs around next week(all the main bits anyway) i'll open a thread with some pics of my room as it is and possibly a few screenshots
    Cheers

"Some Bloke" was me, and I did point out in the post that the pics were blurred through no fault of my own (and you should also take screenshots like this with a pinch of salt anyway, as the camera can often make blacks look darker, as well as other various improvements such as not being able to see any screendoor.)

The AE200 is a budget projector and I can see how it could be improved, but for me it's plenty good enough.

    hey there,
Sorry didn't mean to cause offence!i had to rush off so i referred to you as that, sorry! I wasn't blaming yourself as all and i agree screenshots are hellish to do especially in a dark room etc.
I agree it is a budget projector but it is one hell of a good budget projector, for 700 quid it is def money well spent, a very good starter pj..perhaps leading onto more expensive ones.
again sorry to tom, no offence intended
    Fred

Ok no problem, I just misread your attitude and didn't realise it was because you were in a rush.

    No offense taken.

kewl kewl, i have tried myself to take screenshots with quite a respectable camera before but it was all blurry, like your pics, so soon i am investing in a 200 odd quid one, courtesy of the family hehe, and so it should provide clear enough views, cyberheater you have to realise that the screenshots will in no way represent what you see with your own eyes :)

Well Fred, on weighing up the evidence on your recommendations I have gone for the AE200. I just sold my AE100 for a good price and the new uber machine should arrive tommorrow. To tell the truth. There wasn't really much wrong with the AE100. Great picture in my opinion. I can't wait to see how much better the AE200 is.

i haven't actually seen the PT-AE100 in action so i am not really sure what to compare my 200 on but IMO it is a very good picture, and i haven't even got my 5ft wide screen yet, so congrats anyway
