Recently got HD - basically due to the cost reduction.

When on the phone to India...

Me: "...and cost of HD inc Sky+ is £10, not £20 right?".
Sky: "Yes, that's right, £10 for both".. then much contract reading... ".. and Sky+ and HD together will cost a total of £10...."

    Great....

    So what arrives today....

    "Dear Mr ........

I hope you're enjoying hall the unmissable blah blah blah....

Let's confirm what you'll be paying.

    Here's a run through...blah blah

The total price for your chosen package ... is £41.00."
    Hmm....£21 + £10 = £41.... :lesson:

"... your new subscriptions as follows:

    Sky HD Subscription
    Sky+ Subscription.

Please don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions...."
QUESTIONS!!!!! How about.... do you know how much your own services cost? (and I've got to pay for the privilege of telling them)

So... should I wait for them to charge me £41, and then complain like hell, or, should I call them now?

    Cheers, Rob

I just called them (having found a non-0870 number (I bet that won't last long)).

It seems the letter is correct - BUT - completely confusing.

Indeed, I will be charged £41, but then given a £10 credit for Sky+, making it £31. It's a shame they didn't actually say that in the letter. It just says "£41 per month (excluding any offers)"

Even the guy I spoke to said is isn't particularly clear

" Are Sky just completely incompetent?"

    That's a rhetorical question, right?

I just had exactly the same thing. Was dropping my subscription due to the rejigged movie channels, spoke to some moron for an hour, decided to leave Sky entirely. Got phoned back and offered HD on the cheap, I asked if I'd still have to pay a tenner for Sky+ if I was paying £10 a month for HD, he said no after double checking then I got that same letter!

    Amazing.

They have now given me the movies free for a year though - that's because of a few different things going wrong in the past though.

It's taken me weeks to sort out my 'portfolio' (their term).
    They have been convinced for ages that I have;
    1 x HD
    2 x SKY+

    When I actually have;
    1 x HD
    1 x SKY+
    1 x normal digibox

    Curiously,they weren't billing me as if I had 1 x HD / 2 x SKY+,like they thought I did.
They were billing me the correct amount.
You'd think that the error would carry through to their accounts, but evidently not.
It did cause all sorts of viewing problems though, with viewing cards and boxes not being matched up.
Honestly,it took weeks to sort out, with me constantly running up and down stairs to read out serial numbers...

Let's not mention the horrendous mess one of their installers made of one of my house bricks,in a very conspicuous part of the house..

    They're just a typical example of an out-of-control uber-company.

It wouldn't have made any odd in terms of billing as 1HD and 2Sky+ boxes is the same sub price as 1HD, 1Sky+ and 1 normal box (or even 1HD and 2normal boxes). All costing Sd package + 2xmultiroom + 1HD.

Sky+ is free however many boxes you have when your subs include HD. Try it on the sky website with 2mix plus 1HD and 1Sky+ box and you will see it changes to FREE for both Sky+ listed.

This is why since I am tempted to get a cheap Sky+ box as my std multiroom box as my subs would still be the same.
