Just browsing my collection have a few very tricky to get titles now..ie/ band of brothers full set..etc considering the availability of this format now and the prices i paid (mostly £2.99). Do i actually have a collection worth something now :rotfl:

I reckon they'll start to be worth more in the next couple of years.

I think at the moment, there are too many cheap offers on for people to spend more on a title.

I don't own any box sets but I do have Planet Earth, the 1976 UK King Kong and Total Recall, which I hope are going to be worth a little something in the future.

I doubt they will ever be worth a lot. Most of the same titles are reappearing on BD.

The exceptions will be the titles that look better on HD DVD than Blu-ray thanks to the studios messing the latter releases up with film grain reduction (Universal)... those will still be of value to collectors.

yes some HDs are worth more now, BoB is a good example, probably over £100, rarest probably is taking lives, goes for over $500 on ebay ! crank, tomb raider 2 and peter and the wolf are all worth £30+.

It's funny, some titles seem to be worthless now, probably thanks to HMV selling everyone multiple copies :), others have seen their value rise. For instance I bought a Dutch SAW III for 10 Euros, decided I didn't actually want it and sold it on eBay for substantially less. Soon after it was 2 Euros in the Dutch shops. Now I see people trading it for around £14! Now maybe I should have stocked up on those for eBay!

Planet Earth is one I wish that would go up in price, I have 2 copies and paid about £25 for them, one from the US and one from the UK as I got bored waiting for the US one to arrive. I don't mind selling my duplicates for what I paid, but I really hate selling them for a loss :-(

I also know that things like Total Recall (hard to find for less than £10) and Planet Earth (goes for £15-20 second-hand) are getting quite valuable (I hope!).

It would depend on the titles as some are rarer than others :smashin:

Although you should take a look at Laserdisk prices, most sell for £1 now :(

I sold my King Kong 1976 on the classifieds a few days ago for £8 :) I just found it unwatchable now (I think I watched it too many times when I was younger) :D

I think King Kong's becoming quite rare because nearly every site only carries the 2005 version and some are even sold out with that one.

You can't even get it at Xploited Cinema.

I'll be cross if it comes up on the HMV site at £3. :D

I've noticed that there's even a French version of the 1976 one - can't imagine how rare that is!

Re Taking Lives - apparently, only 20 copies were ever made.

I like buying hard-to-find discs but $500 for one disc is absolutely crazy.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I bought it. :D

I wouldn't pay more than £40 for a single disc (makes note to remember this).

I half-expected the US HD DVD of 'Pan's Labyrinth' to increase in value given its release and New Line's abandonment of the format were days apart. I can't imagine that many copies of it were made but I still don't think it's worth much, most likely because the identical Blu-ray was released at the same time. Still, maybe in a few years time when HD DVD possibly becomes a collector's format, it might be worth a tenner. :D

I think its worth a tenner now, might be worth a bit more one day, wasn't the US release one of the few HDs with 7.1 audio?

Surely its a collectors format now, how else do you explain the number people have bought? I've got more HDs than SDs!

Same here - about twice as many HDs as SDs.

My most recent film on SD was The Simpsons Movie and most recent on HD will be Batman Begins/I am Legend/Smokey and the Bandit (30 years old ) and 2 Fast 2 Furious when they arrive.

I've never been a big DVD fan but since I started building up my HD collection, I've been watching 2 films a week most weeks.

Some people say it isn't and things will be worthless but I think, in the future, people interested in HD films will pay an arm and a leg for HD-DVD exclusive classic films - like:

    An American Werewolf in London
    Smokey and the Bandit
    King Kong 1976

I was going to put Enter the Dragon but it's actually out on Blu-Ray.

Surely, at the end of Blu-Ray, there'll be about 100 films or more than haven't made it onto Blu-Ray and so be worth a lot?

I have a few films that seem quite rare.
    Lethal Weapon 2
    Serpico
    Total Recall
    The Graduate
    The Pianist
    Terminator 2 (2 disc edition)
    The Last Starfighter
    Arizona Dream
    The Manchurian Candidate
    Mutiny On The Bounty

loads more from america which are hard to get now.

I have all the Stanley Kubrick films that are going for around £10-20 each on ebay.
I have over 150 films, may think about about selling some if I can make a profit.

I've got Total Recall, as well, but only the English T2.

I paid almost £11 for Total Recall about 3 months ago.

Apart from DVD.co.uk and Xploited Cinema (never ordered from them, though), I think the only other place you can get TR2 is on here and eBay.

I would've thought they'd be worth a little bit more in, say, 3-6 months.

I was looking for Lethal Weapon 2 away from the classifieds the other day and the only place I could find it from new on a 'normal' web site was at Amazon Canada.

I know used is normally OK but I much prefer to buy sealed discs.

About The Invasion being rare, I got mine for £4 from Gamestation a couple of months ago.
