I am getting conflicting advice from people ranging from you have to get great scart leads or it will let your good kit down to down waste your time its an industry con they are all fine!

What are the benefits of decent scart leads over standard ones?

    Cheers :lesson:

Better quality leads do make a difference but the law of diminishing returns kicks in at a certain point whereby money spent <> discernible difference in quality.

Most people seem to concur that you should be looking to spend about £15-20 on a fully wired RGB SCART lead. Take a peek at www.cableuniverse.co.uk for decent leads at excellent prices and v good service (no, I don't work there or get commission, just been v impressed with their whole setup).

We use £18 scart leads on our installs unless asked to go better, we find this is the start of the point of diminishing returns. This is QED squart type leads, well not specifically those cos they are so stiff, they are a real nuisance in almost any situation. Are you listening now, QED?

IXOS do some good value basic scarts that always pick up loads of awards. I have at least two in my system and they definitely provide a clearer picture with brighter colours and better edge definition than the stuff that came in the box. I think their cheapest is about £25 and concur that diminishing returns kicks in soon after. I spent £150 recently on a Nordost S-Video cable and though it is beautifully constructed, really cant tell the difference in PQ between it and one at £30. Silly me.

As an addendum, the longer the cable, the more expensive it will get (obviously). I think that with every couple of extra metres it may also be worth going "one model higher" in the range just to get better materials that minimise signal loss.

£15-20 will do you just fine. There are some good Thor ones available from TV cables. No need to look further. :)

Recently got the IXOS XHT601 scart here - really beautiful scart and ingot connectors, equally beautiful picture. The QED AV41 Squart is also good but expensive, RGB video only so no audio transmission.

kmt, not your firm by any chance? I can't find them on the web, perhaps a link would be good. I find it hard to believe you can make a quality lead and retail it at £5,99, even if slave labour is employed in the production line.
