Have just purchased my first Sony television.
Overall, I am very impressed with it. It's the new 49" 4k KD49X8309C and I am very pleased with the picture quality on HD, SD and the little 4k content that I have watched.
But one thing is really bugging me.
I cannot "marker" or set a "reminder" for an upcoming programme in the EPG.
I can select something that is already being transmitted no problem at all, but if I move on to a later viewing time the "view" box is just black and it won't allow me to select it.
I have emailed Sony support and so far I have been advised to reset it back to factory, ensure I have the latest software installed (which I have) and have even been asked to send them photo's of the fault as it appears on my screen.
A further email from them this morning advised me of another software update being released today which might have helped...but it hasn't.
I was full of expectations when the update finally installed (took ages) but they were short lived when I quickly discovered that no, I could still not set a reminder on the EPG.
Is there something I am missing in the set up menu, or are all Sony's like this?
It seems strange that you can't set a reminder.....

Expect a huge amount of updates from Sony over the coming months. This years TV's and the new OS are full of issues. Luckily Sony seem to be on the case!

Anyway given the poor state of modern LCD TV's and getting even basic things like picture quality right. If your only problem is a dodgy EPG, thank your lucky stars! :)

My Panasonic wont set a reminder either, and nor will my parents which is a couple years old, pretty annoying tbh, but it seems to be the way some EPG's are now.

I appreciate what you are saying, but I can't see the point of having a "view" tab visible which can't be selected
The fact that Sony have pointed me in the direction of a new software update to potentially rectify this (as well as carrying out a reset etc) leads me to believe that there might be a "fault" with it?

From what you have said there does seem to be a software defect. Your TV is not faulty (as such) there's just a bug in its Operating System. Make sure you keep pestering Sony Tech support about any issues you have.. Fingers crossed the next few software updates will sort the issue out for you :)

I have emailed tech support this morning to let them know that the latest software update didn't sort the problem out. Hopefully they will come back to me fairly quickly with a solution.
As I say, it "spoils" what is otherwise a great set. I know it's only a minor thing to some, but I can't personally see the point of an EPG where you can't marker a programme for later viewing or recording.
My previous Samsung and Panasonic sets all had this facility.
I'll keep you posted and thanks for your support.

Lol, at least they are actively working it. Might be a good opportunity to make a few feature requests whilst you are talking to them :)

Silly thing is, how many pictures of an inactive "view" tab can I take!

This may all be a little moot given it will be updated to YouView soon, no?

Another issue with this set reared it's ugly head last night. The dreaded "HDMI inputs not being recognised" fault that other owners have reported!
Had to switch off at the mains, wait 3 minutes and then switch back on again. That sorted it, but becoming increasingly frustrated with this telly.
I have also suffered the lip sync problems that others are reporting... switching to "guide" and then back to the programme sorts it out, but you shouldn't have to do this on a new TV should you?
Seriously thinking about taking this back to Currys and "upgrading" to something else before my 14 days are up. Problem is, I don't have the original packaging. Lack of storage space in our house won't allow me to store massive great empty boxes.

I'm 99% sure that to return (for refund/swap) under DSR you need the original packaging. It also has to be in as new condition.

Sony are constantly (almost every week) releasing updates for the TV, so if you can tune out the issues from your mind for a bit.... You'll having a working TV soon :)

Keep petering Sony Tech support and if the issues don't go away anytime soon. Ask Sony for compensation. I.e. As gesture of goodwill ;)

I thought that was the case Mr S so I'll sit tight at the moment.
It's a shame because as far as the PQ of the set is concerned I love it.
    It's just these annoying niggles!
The bloody thing reset the date & time this morning too.
It was showing 13.25 on Thursday 1st Jan
