Archos AV700 DVD Copy Protection

I was busy recording a few recent DVDs on to my Archos AV700 mobile DVR at the weekend, to keep me entertained on a longish train journey planned for this Thursday. The is supposable able to record DVDs and play them back on the built-in 7" screen, but should not be able to output to TV or (dare I say) DVD Recorder. The funny thing is, of all the disks I tried it with, only 2 prevented me from doing the latter. In other words I am able to copy (eg rented) DVDs onto the Archos and then copy that onto DVD (using a Sony DVD recorder). OK there is some picture degradation and you loose DD/DTS sound, but it is entirely watchable.

 

just use dvd shrink if you want to backup a dvd
