    Hello,

My Archos AV340 has died. The lights don't come on when I swtich it on and it's connected to the mains etc. No life with a battery either. My question. Can I take out the HD and use it in a PC ? How easy is it to take it out and mount it in a PC so I can get my videos and music back?

    Cheers

I've read on other forums where others have taken drives out of the AV500 series to check them on a computer, so in theory it should work. I think the drives Archos use are laptop drives, you might have to check that a desktop PC IDE cable will fit.

But if your Archos has died but the lights come on, it maybe a HDD drive failure.

Do a google search for Archos av300 hard drive swap and you'll find detailed info with pictures on how to open the AV300 and remove the 2.5in HD.

The HD can then be placed in to an external enclosure and used as a portable USB HD.

You will also be able to get to all your music and videos too.
