Archo AV500 filing question.

This is pretty basic but do you know the answer. Right now I do not.

I copied a cd to my pc hard drive using deep burner to make an mp3 version. Each track listed as track1, track2 etc. I renamed each to the name of the "song".mp3. They were all now in a file named as per the cd. I copied into the music folder from pc to Archos.

Now when I look in music for title the tracks list as Track1,2,3 etc but if I look in the browser, music, I find them listed with the titles of the songs.

Any ideas. I have seen someone else post similar about the browser showing differnt.

This sounds like a problem with the ID tags for the mp3 files.

Mp3s have a "hidden" tag, encoded into the file itself. This contains all the information about the track name, artist, album, etc. Mp3 players use this information, rather than the file names that you see in windows.

When you rip your own CDs to mp3 format, the ID tag won't get written, unless you are connected to the internet, and use a suitable program for ripping. There are a couple of large databases on the 'net, which can work out what CD you are ripping, and send the ID tag info back to your PC.

I use Musicmatch to rip CDs. You may find that the software you are using can create the tags as well, but you may have to turn the option on somewhere, and enable internet lookup (Gracenote, CDDB, or similar).

Wow, what a reply. That may be the case. Certainly something I was not aware of so good to know anyway. I will attempt to check it out. :smashin:
