    Hi,

This is one for an Arcam Engineer or technical expert.

I have a DV79. A friend of mine likes the picture via component output. He doesn't require HDMI or the additional onboard audio decoding.

    1. Is the DV78's PROGRESSIVE component video output identical quality to the DV79's?
    2. Does the DV78 have the same drive and laser unit as the DV79?

If the answer to the above is yes, then he may as well buy the DV78?

    Regards,
    Ian

The deinterlacing and MPEG decoders are exactly the same. However the DV79 has better video DACs than the DV78. In practice any visible differences will be fairly small, especially on a regular (non-projector type) display, but it's worth mentioning.

All Arcam DVD players use the same DVD/CD drive.

    HTH.

    Hi John,

Thanks very much for the information. It's nice to still see you around these parts. I hope you are enjoying your new position.

I think based on this info, my friend will buy a DV79.

    Regards,
    Ian
