My DV89 gives e the "No Disc" error on maybe 1 in 3 cd's. DVD's play OK.

Is this a faulty laser please?

Either a faulty, misaligned or worn out laser assembly. Either way I would get it back to Arcam for repair.

The very fact that you are asking if you could do this would lead me to believe that the answer would be no.

I'm a fully qualified Technical Engineer so I'm quite capable of replacing parts thank you very much.

I was questioning wether or not it's a straight forward problem i.e. replacement laser assembly, or would it have to be diagnosed by Arcam first.

An earlier poster on this forum had the same problem on his CD73. He was quoted £220+ by Arcam but picked up a replacement laser for £9.
