Without a doubt Arcam's DV-88 is an excellent machine. The sort of person who spends £1000 on a DVD-player is the sort of person who notices what appears to be the tiniest of problems or errors. This includes myself. After some initial problems with software that has been sorted out with brilliant back-up and service from Arcam, the player has settled into the position of one of the best available at any price.

I can confirm this. I had a case of bad luck with my first DV88, but my dealer replaced it immediately. Also, the service Arcam offers is outstanding. I am VERY happy with the player and trust me..I am one of those people Squad is talking about

    cheers, Marcel

Okay. It may have had some problems to start with, but the Arcam DV88 is a fine DVD player.

My first player had to be replaced due to a problem with the drive (pausing video from time to time), but my new player is great.

Only problem encountered so far is with the region 2 version of Chain Reaction. It doesn't play beyond the layer change. I know this is a problem with the player as the disc works fine in my old Pioneer DV505 and my PC DVD-Rom drive.

What puts the DV88 above every other player at £1k mark is it's ability to play audio CD's.
It might not sound as good as my Linn CD player, but it's a finer CD player than any other sub £1k player I've heard.

The only upgrade from the Arcam I would consider is to the Tag McLaren DV32R, but at almost 4x the price is it worth it ?

Only one word for the arcam CRAP what is the sense of having a player what sounds great but half the time cant play discs has problems with layer change and so forth. Its alright saying that customer service is great but i would prefer it not going wrong at all.

Some bastard nicked it.. so I am back to square one..

Do I buy another one, or the Sony 9000 or the Tosh.. Decisions decisions decisions...??

Got one from new with the latest software, never experienced any difficulties.

Layer transitions are very quick, far quicker than my old Samsung and in some cases barely noticeable. Can't speak of chain reaction as I haven't got that disk but have you e-mailed Arcam regarding the problem alan?

Just a quickie - my DV88 is the best money I've ever spent, plus it's British. Despite an absolute age getting version 1.74 firmware off of Musical Images, I've never had any complaints about the machine.
