I just bought Chain Reaction Region 2 DVD from HMV and I'll getting a problem when trying to play beyond chapter 13 on my Arcam DV88.

It seems to be at the layer change on the disc. The sound continues, but the video pauses then starts to turn blocky.

I've tried starting the disc from the next chapter, but it's still the same. Also tried skipping forward to all the chapters beyond 12 and get the same result.

The disc works fine in my old DVD player (Pioneer DV-505) and in my PC DVD-Rom drive.

Sounds like there is a problem with DV88 and this disc. Has anyone else out there had this problem ?

    Alan.

How old is the DV88? Which firmware and sofwtare does it have?

An upgrade may help if it's old.

It's a new player (Replaced a few months ago due to fault with my first player).

It has the latest firmware (1.74)

I would take the disc back. I had exactly the same problem with Aliens on DVD with a Pioneer player before getting the Arcam. It doesn't sound like a problem with your machine. I've had compatiblity problems with my DV-88 and certain titles but it tends to happen around the menu area of a disc and not in the middle of a film.

Sometimes you get a duff or damaged disc where the player cannot read the second layer properly. You might find it improves towards the end of the film, but that doesn't really matter !

Hope that helps, what's the film like ?

It's a fault with the player not the disc.<br />The disc works in the other DVD Players I have. It only fails to play the second layer on the Arcam.

As for the film - not bad, but for a tenner who can complain.
