Having recently got a replacement 350 due to a problem with the previous unit I've noticed that my full-bit film dvds are being decoded in the standard48k rather than the higher 96k...
I did notice on the previous unit that the higher decode rate would would flash on the receiver's osd when playing a high-bit rate dvd, which doesn't seem to do on the new unit.
Iv'e also noticed the dvd player's status bar showing 48k, so I'm thinking the receiver is not sending the player the right decoding signal back, so therefore confusing the player...
Any help would greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the settings on the 139? is it set to 96k. Other than that no idea

All audio settings have been rechecked this afternoon with no success...:(
Checked the bit-rate of The Eagles-Hell freezes DVD which was around 9k which seems odd for a full bit dvd...pretty sure it's around the 15k mark...
I also noticed that it was decoding a 5.1 SACD disk oddly, switching between 44 & 188Khz..
Please someone tell me I'm not going mad:suicide:

Exactly what type of "full-bit" discs are we talking about? The only discs you will get the receiver to display anything like what you are talking about are the few discs around that have a DTS 96/24 soundtrack on them. The number of these discs around are very few indeed and the Eagles Hells Freezes over is not one of them.

The DVD player's staus bar shows what the player's inbuild decoder is playing. As the Dv139 does not decode DTS 96/24 soundtracks onboard it will downsample it to 48 kHz which is what the staus bar is telling you. The digital output on the player is unnafected by this and the receiver will display "DTS 96/24" on the front panel briefly when it detects that type of signal. The receiver does not send any information to the player at all, the digital connection from the player to the receiver is a one way communication interface.

This is the total bitrate of the disc being played and is affected by the amount of audio and video compression used. This will vary throughout the playback of the disc. Where exactly are you getting you information regarding what the average bit rate for a DVD should be?

Via the status bar on the player...
I know for sure the Eagles peaks at 15k on another player whereas the Arcam peaks at at around 9.8...

The Departed-Casino Royal-The Curse of the Golden Flower-The Art of War...
I know Hell freezes over is not 96/24, I don't have any infact...
I know for a fact that that 88khz flashed on the receiver's osd when playing the Departed disk previously..

I have the Genesis SACD boxset. These supposed to have the DTS 96/24 on them.

Is it true that the DV139 only decodes DTS at 48 according to Crustyloafer. So to get 96/24 you have to use the digital output of the 139 connected to the AV8. I thought the 139 would decode DTS @ 96/24.

How would you recomend listening to these DTS soundtracks? Is it via digital coax to the AV8, or direct conection (6 phonos) to the AV8.

Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the confirmation btmason, I'm sure I seen something else regarding the Video side of things....
Crusty cleared it up pretty well, so I'll leave it as it is.

Good question.

If I were to upgrade my denon 2900 at some point to the DVD 139, would my Denon AV 11 AV amp be able to decode the 96/24 DTS of the Genesis set or any other source?

A significant number of DVD-A discs that Ihave also have 96/24 sound in addition to DVD-A
