Anyone know if this is slated to be replaced? It's been around quite a while and is 5.1 only. I was thinking of buying one mainly for it's 2 channel performance.

    Really.

Has that been "officially" mentioned or seen in a mag?

Thanks Paul - looks like it might be worth hanging on.

Refraining from buying more kit is not my strong point though:D

I'm looking for something to replace my Marantz SR4200, and I'd been holding out for a DiVA processor, but an AVR300 might be more wallet-friendly. Is it going to be an in-house design or another custom-made NAD? I'd be very interested to know how it would match with an A85.

No sense speculating of course, but I would expect this to be an amp that can favorably compare to the Denon 3803, Pioneer 2011, NAD 762 and Sony VA555ES.

That was being very kind to Sony Dennon and Pioneer, I would expect it to beat the pants off of them.

here is the reply i got form john dawson when i asked a question about a new amp

    Re: audio delay

James - at this time I am not in a postion to comment on upcoming products, but we are well aware of the market requirements. Please watch this space or e-mail me again in say a month or so. But I wouldn't rush out to buy the competition :)

    Hope this helps.

hi sorry to contact you but cant find an email address on your website for enquires

ive just puchased a dv88+ and was hoping to pair it with a new amp was looking at avr200 but i would like the feature of a audio delay for other sourses like ntl/video/ect.

i know the denon 3803 has this aswell as upconversion for s-video to component.

will you /arcam be bringing out a amp with these features on ? as i would prefer to keep to same make as dvd player.

    thanks

    james mackie

    an AVR300 maybe

i hope john does not mind me posting his reply to me

I heard :) that it will be produced in the Far east like the 100/200 and that there may be a road show of the product (maybe the dvd player as well DV78?) in the near future in the UK.

Can't wait to see it.. the 100 may be a bit clunky.. but it does sound lovely.. and has a good solid build quality.. sorry I had to sell mine really..

    Cheers

    A month... ;)

Good news though, especially component video inputs would be welcome. The DV78 sounds interesting too, if it's under a grand and still features progressive scan I might get it to replace my Philips 963SA.

It clashes with my other Arcam stuff :)

Seriously, I'm rather pleased with it, but it does have one or two serious problems. Posterization is very noticeable in some scenes, and it shows horrible pixelation when using NTSC discs over component. This last problem may have been the fault of my old TV, a JVC HV32D25 which I've gotten rid of. I'll probably be using component over SCART on my Loewe Aventos (when I've saved enough to buy it ;) ), so I'll see what happens. The posterization I can live with, but the pixelation is too much.

According to that page, it should have been announced at CEDIA on the 5th September.

But I can't find any details of it.

I spoke to an Arcam salesman, who said that the AVR300 spec will be:

    7 channels
    100wpc
    PLIIx equipped

It will also be made in China, to Arcam's design & is expected to cost £1200. He expected it to be available in January.

I suppose there's a good chance, although the guy from Arcam said it was 100% Arcam designed.

Still, he would say that I suppose.

I don't think it's really fair to say the AVR200 was based on a NAD chassis either. The NAD model (can't remember it's name) and the AVR200 were both customizations of an OEM Chinese design and then each company specified their own little tweaks and cases.

Michael is absolutely correct here - there are literally hundreds of component differences and several different circuit board design changes between the AVR200 and any NAD products on the same platform.

The AVR300 is a ground up Arcam design - I should know having spent several months of my life this year developing the power amplifier design! Do not expect to see other brand names using this platform.

In terms of its look, feel and feature set, the AVR300 is much more like a son of AV8 than a grown up AVR200. We have kept the same front panel size as the AVR200 however (although it's a couple of inches deeper and a lot heavier); this means it will fit on most people's shelves!

I will talk about the feature set in more detail at a later date. I can tell you we'll make it in both silver and black!

    "...couple of inches deeper..."

So that puts is over 500cm deep then John? (based on adding 50mm to the depth of the AVR200) Does that include the speaker binding posts?

Ask as I really want to partner my DV27 with one, but I'm a little concerned it wont fit the Quadraspire cabinet depth...

    Thanks

    Hi Ross, Noodle,

I just measured an AVR300 engineering sample with a ruler! The depth from the front panel to the back of the speaker terminals is approximately 430mm. Obviously you may wish to allow a little more for protruding plugs, especially from the speaker terminals. If you need to include the volume knob at the front add another 20mm.

As to suggested retail price we have not yet set it formally, so we reserve the right to change our minds, but plan on £1299 UK suggested retail including VAT.

C'mon John!!! We WANT this amp! My dealer will have me banging on the door to let me trade up my AVR200. It's the upgrade I've been waiting for. You and Andy have to let more details slip!! Please! :) :)
