If it's failing to read discs, it's probably the laser mech that's had it. The lousy bit about that is that the 5+ used the Philips CDM9 mech, which has been out production for some years and those that are available are going for high prices. The last Alpha 5+ laser mech we did was about £230 from memory, but that may not be current. £230 is more than an Alpha 5+ is worth, but it will cost you about £500 to replace it, so something of a dilema.
