I posted this is the AV amplifiers and receivers forum but have had no reply so I'm hoping for you guys to comment... :)

I've recently been thinking about changing my amplifier, I've never been impressed with the musicality of my Pioneer and have missed my old Marantz KI signature 2 channel since I replaced it with the AX3. I am however impressed with the AX3's surround sound on films so what I'd like to know is how good the Arcam alpha 10 amp with the DAVE module is combined with the 3 channel power amp and how it would compare to my much newer AX3?

In its day the Alpha 10/DAVE combination was a good one. I still have one and it still works. The things you need to take into account are:

    1. It does not support Dolby Pro-logic II
    2. It does not support bass redirection in Dolby Pro-logic
    3. There is only video switching for composite and S-video
    4. There is no 5.1 pre-input for use with Blu-ray or HD-DVD
    5. Need plenty of ventilation as they run hot.

On the plus side it has the following:

    1. Two optical digital inputs
    2. Two co-ax digital inputs
    3. Supports Dolby Digital and DTS
    4. Good quality DACs. (I currently use mine to play music from my Apple TV)

Hope this helps with your decision.

    Cheers

    Dave
