Arcam A85 at higher volume

Hi there!

I recently took the plunge of buying a second hand Arcam Diva A85 as upgrade over my own A75+, what a difference that is! wow!

I only have a slight problem with the A85, when playing a normal volume like 28 it plays flawless and absolutly brilliantly clear!!
but when the unit is warmed up and I go over 40 i hear a kind white noise through my music occasionally, it's hard to describe but it almost hears like a crack in a cable every now and then..

Already changed the interlink between my Simple Audio Roomplayer and the A85 - no result
Already changed the speaker cables - no result
Mounted spaded to the bare wire speaker cables - no result

  • Could you maybe tell me where to look further?
  • heard of the problem before?
  • can it have something to do with the A85 firmware?
  • Can the problem be the Simple Audio roomplayer?

many thanks in advance!!

Never experienced that with my A85. I would try to swap the speakers over for another pair if you are able, just to make sure it's not them you are driving too hard, although you would probably have heard it with your A75+. Good luck.

i tried to swap the speaker cables.. i think the problem is in my bow wire's

trying to find good banana to spade adapters, as this A85 does not accept banana's and will then go back to single wire .. hope that solves the problem... but hey! what an amp this is! such an improvement compared to the A75+

it had to do with my speaker terminals, in order to use a bi wire set up i needed to move the link plate, which i obviously did.. but I think the remaining peace of link plate caused some kind of a distortion.

I have now created speaker links from pieces of wire and spades.. and the problem seems to be solved.

thanks for the headsup!

you're right..

but the Majik 109 are tri wirable speakers, so with a bi wire yuou still have the hi freq unwired.. these are linked with a link plate to the kids, now with speaker jumpers ;-)
