What are the 'real' differences between these players?

I'm more than interested in possibly upgrading (already:rolleyes: ) my newly acquired 88+ if it's that worthwhile.

    Thanks.

the basic difrences are cd performance on phono outputs are up from cd72 level to cd92, simaltanious component output ( i interlaced 1 progressive), slightly better de-interlacing of video based source, and some enginering tweeks.

how noticable some of that in the real world is i couldnt say but, if you use it as a transport, you can add the extra board for the extra component with better de-interlacing.

im sure some people in the kno can give you a more informative answer tho.

    cheers

    Thanks for that.

I'm actually quite keen on the idea of it already. The 88+ is fantastic. The promise of better performance is just too much.:)

All I need to know is who sells these now? Need a demo.

As I've been informed, the new DVD-A version is the one in the retailers now.

I auditioned both a while ago, and imho DV-27 is way better for video and audio performance. Here is what I liked about DV-27 vs. DV88+:

video: blacks and contrast - best I have seen at this price range

audio: base is extended and trebles are much sweeter and better defined.

But the price... At the end, I could not convince myself I want DV88+, but was too greedy to splash on DV27. Ended up with CD23T and Philips 963SA - audio is great, video is far below DV27.

    Net, my recommendation is DV27.

If you bargin hard, you can get the DV27 for a lot less. I demo'd both the 88 and the 27, imho the 27 is streets ahead for sound quality and its picture quality is also slighty better, although on big plasma's it really noticable.

I would disagree that it's Cd replayis on a par with the CD92, I think its above this and only svery slightly below the CD23
