I have Sony Bravia TV (ARC compatible), Onkyo NR656 (ARC compatible), Virgin TIVO, Sony PS3

1. Do I connect TV and Onkyo just with the HDMI cable as both are ARC compatible or also use Optical cable.

2. Onkyo has 2 Optical points - can I connect TIVO to receiver with Optical as well? I use use HDMI to Onkyo for video.

All the ARC does is transfer audio from inbuilt TV functions such as Freeview/freesat and Smart Tv functions back to the AMP

The optical doesnt add anything if you connect your sources (virgin and PS3) to the AVR via HDMI

ARC - as Seb says transfers audio from the TV to the AVR.

ARC - requires that you enable HDMI CEC Control on the TV and AVR, which is not always trouble free.

TV Optical Out - is a good backup if you hit problems with ARC/CEC.

TiVo - connect to the AVR with HDMI.

PS3 - connect to the AVR with HDMI.

Thanks Joe. So, connecting the TiVo to AVR with an Optical (together with HDMI) will not benefit at all?
