Well done Antpink - a very well deserved win. A super photo.

Thank you Zone for all the effort you put into the comp every month. It's my favourite part of avforums (whether I enter or not) and that's no mean feat.

'Adversity' - wow that's a tough one :) Looking forward to seeing the entries, but my mind is blank right now.

    Zone - thanks.

tryingtimes - thanks - your screen name pretty much sums up where we are today, so I thought this would be fitting to see how different people's views shape up in response. Looking forward to a variety of humour, hope and downright difficult responses..... this one might get a bit personal, which could be difficult for both posters and responders. Hope all show respect throughout, which fortunately this forum, and members, seem to be pretty good at.

It will definitely be interesting. I keep forgetting that my username is such a downer. I had just been made redundant and was listening to the Courtney Pine version of the Donny Hathaway original (I think they might both be called tryin'times, but hey) when I first joined this forum. So it all seemed to fit. But I guess it must effect people's view of me and my posts.
I guess I'm stuck with it now lol!

Checking out for a week - PC-less so I can take a real holiday for a change! Will be looking forward to see what starts to come in. I think tax returns are due this month so that should get some straight into the mood ;)

distress - a state of adversity (danger or affliction or need); "a ship in distress"; "she was the classic maiden in distress"

affliction - a state of great suffering and distress due to adversity

victimization - adversity resulting from being made a victim; "his victimization infuriated him"

low-water mark, nadir - an extreme state of adversity; the lowest point of anything

Hello all, I'm only just starting to get into photography, but I liked the idea of entering the monthly comp. I have read the rules and was wondering about the "also exif must be left embedded in the image or else the photo will be disallowed" rule, what does that mean exactly ? thanks in advance for any answers.

    Regards.

The exif is data that is stored with the photo which shows information such as date photo taken, camera make and model, shutter speed, lens length, appeture etc... generally if you right click the photo then click on properties it will show the information stored in the exif.

Zone (the admin who looks after the photo comp) uses the exif to check that the photo has been taken in the month that the competiotion is run, and its also interesting for other photographers to see how someone has achieved things.

Some photo editing software strips the exif so before editing you photo make sure you save an original of it because even if the exif is stripped by your software Zone will accept a copy of the original as proof.

Must admit, I am struggling this month.

I have a few ideas, but no real clue how to turn them into photos at the moment.

wow - that marquee must be strong! If I were the marquee supplier I'd use that photo as evidence of the abuse it can stand up to :)

The flood was probably around 7 feet at the marquee door.

Sorry guys and gals, did not realise this was going to be so tough - pictures of head scratching moments may be one way to realise a photo, but some of the ideas I had in my head (but also have not been able to get) may have been both difficult for people to take, as well as possibly getting a bit too dark on theme for many to want to take the pics. Adversity in every day life, especially in these times, could be a broad range of subjects - one of my friends here is in a wheelchair, I see the conditions people live in throughout this region (Asia) and the aftermath of some terrible disasters on my travels, I read the headlines of the soldiers leaving and coming home from conflicts thousands of miles away from home, Hillsborough, the jobless ranks growing daily and the household economies of too many suffering from the decisions of seemingly untouchables, the too often stories of crime by kids who haven't been given the guidance they need, like my village vicar being assaulted outside the Parish church by kids, another family friend was taken by cancer, yet she was irreverent to the end.

However, although the subject seam is rich, the mining of it is emotionally very hard, and for that I apologise.
