    Hi all,

I bought a appletv1 off eBay because wanted one with a hardrive instead of leaving the iMac on for the kids to stream films

Iv'e had it back and when it loads up it goes stright to XBMC. no apple screen at all. They did say it came with XBMC. but i don't want this any idea how to restore it please?

My guess is its running linux xbmc

Also would have apple tv2 to sell for the RRP when i can get this sorted

    Many thanks for your time.

Hi Chris, I would gladly purchase your ATV2 for RRP when you are ready :)

EDIT for your issue. If you follow these steps you should be able to restore it to standard.

    recovery screen restore...

Hold down the Menu and Menu down/scroll (-) buttons on the remote for approximately 3 to 5 seconds, until the LED on your Apple TV (1st generation) flashes yellow.

After your Apple TV (1st gen) restarts, a screen appears asking you to pick a language. Select the language you wish to use.

The Apple TV 1 Recovery screen appears with 3 selections:

    Restart
    Run Diagnostics
    Factory Restore

Restore, keep it plugged in and it should restart once done :)

What size HDD is ypur ATV1?

I have a 40GB one that has xbmc but not instant boot like yours. It boots to normal apple TV screen and you have to select xbmc. So I guess best of both for you.

could do you a swap for your ATV2? rarely used at all and I have the box and outer brown box too somewhere.
We have expensive reclaimed wood furniture and as the ATV has a HDD, it makes the wood warm so we dont use it really now so it is kinda sitting here redundant!

    I think the ATV2 is worth quite a bit more than a 40GB ATV1.

eBay still has the 2 at around £175, often more.

Hi chris, I'm not 100% but I think you will need to obtain the software for the Apple TV 1 from somewhere as I think the original running software needs tone wiped to install Linux presumably frodo xbmc. I'm after an Apple TV 1 myself and I want to install frodo using Linux etc so I've been reading up on how to do it in preparation to finding Apple TV 1.
    I apologise if I'm wrong though .
