Yes you can purchase anytime before your initial guarantee expires.

But what if next years model is better ? (goes without saying)

Should I buy the iPad Applecare package, is it worth it?

It only extends the warranty for an extra year (plus gives you unlimited phone support too I think), but if my iPad went pop in months 13 to 24 I would be expecting a replacement via the Sale of Goods Act in that an £700 device should be expected to last more than a year.

I bought from PC World and, in this instance, wanted to get their warranty that they normally push on you for as little a purchasing a mouse from them. Strangely enough they didn't mention it this time, and when I asked they advised me that they are not offering it on the iPad!

Accidental damage was the only thing I wanted cover for, so declined their counter offer of AppleCare.

Our iPad was mostly bought for our 3 year old to use to help with Speech so you can imagine the desire for accidental damage cover!?!

Wouldn't it just be covered for damage on your home insurance?

I was told in the Apple store that I could buy it any time within the 1yr warranty period so I'd suggest leaving it for awhile.
yes that was my understandding as well

I would do the same, it's a pity that this is not more wildly known in the public domain.

I don't think it is for the iPad - its just one additional year (no damage cover etc). On all else I'd say yes.
is it just a one year purchase in as much as when the initial year and then the apple care has expired you can't buy again?

Thianks to all others who replies, Curly

Oddly enough the website says AppleCare for the iPad is For up to two years from your iPad original purchase date, which doesn't make sense. It is for 2 years from the original date of purchase no more & no less.

Nothing odd about that. If you purchased Applecare a day before your original warranty ran out you would only be entitled to 12 months and a day cover.

Yes its all in the wording: it must be purchased before the original warranty expires and is valid for 2 years from the original purchase date. Therefore you can't buy it a second time.

So basically you gain telephone support for the first year over your standard warranty and then extra warranty and support in year 2 then.

It's either buy it straight away or not at all then I guess, as pointless adding it at end of first year as you lost the extra for that year and dont get any saving whatsoever.
