Does anyone know if it's possible to connect an apple Mini-Mac to a TV via component and use it to play high quality DVD's on?

I've lent a couple of DVI-> component adapters to friends with Macs to find out the answer to this very same question. Unfortunately they don't work on G5 (X800) Macs; and you've just reminded me to chase up my mini-mac owning friend...

The apple dvd plyer is not that good a bit of software and all of the decoding is software based not hardware.. so I would not expect a better picture than a dedicated display.

DVI to component convertors don't work on the minis. Whilst the built-in video chippage supports the feature, Apples OEM drivers for the mini don't enable that functionality :(

    One more question then.

If I can't connect something small like that up to my TV. What do I need to connect my existing PC to my screen? I have a Radeon 9800 Pro with DVI, it's about 6m away from screen.

And what about sound? I currently use the onboard sound on my motherboard, but am willing to buy a sound card card if need be, something that will connect to my amp would be nice.

    Thanks Guys

You can buy the radeon dvi to component dongle which I have on mine.. though you are limited to the resolutions your TV can handle.. it does work though.. I'm sure there are other threads about it here somewhere!

Since Matt has a working one, I'll retract my statement ... I guess you're talking about this ? I was posting based on this thread over at the centerstage project ... but reading between the lines I don't think anyone over there actually bothered trying it.

I may be interested in this. Depends on the price of course!
