    Hi,

I was looking on the overclockers forum at the apple desktop gallery and there are some excellent apple based backgrounds on there. I've also seen someone who has changed his mail icon to a 2nd class stamp which looks pretty good.

I've asked on there where I can download such backgrounds/icons but no one seems to helpful on there :thumbsdow

    Thanks for your help. :)

in a few of the posts on that thread, the tiger users have the background to the dock removed so its just floating icons.

    how is this done?

is there anyway to have it like this in leopard?

On Tiger they use ClearDock, but that's not compatible with Leopard.

To change the mail icon, have a look here

Might need to do the copy/paste trick as well.

what i've done is, if you have the mail icon in the applications folder show the new stamp you want, quit the mail app and remove it from the dock. with the new icon from the applications folder, move it back in and it uses the icon you want.

    worked for me.

i've tested it with the kill dock command and its staying as it should.

    ok.

in your current dock you have the preview icon where the mail should be. make sure you quit mail and remove it from the dock. head into your applications folder and find the mail app. if the icon its using is the correct stamp simply copy it back into your dock and it should stay like that permanently.

i think i used the blue one.

if you find the icon you want (ICNS)

go to the applications folder, right click the mail icon and hit "show package contents" navigate through here till you come to the "contents" folder. in the contents folder copy in the icon you want and rename it "app.icns" and replace the one already there.
