On the US Apple site they have a deal where if you send in a Premiere original install CD (Mac or Windows) you get a free copy of Final Cut Express or USD500 back if you buy Final Cut Pro.

    http://www.apple.com/finalcut/offer/

Like most things I guess the deal will make over to the UK in a week or so.

Now's the time to buy a really old crappy copy of Premiere and cash in on FCP, the best piece of editing software ever, no doubt....

It just keeps getting better, FCP4 on a G5 is a whole new level.

All for less money than my Amiga 2000.

    Jonathan.

I'm looking into external SATA solutions for the G5 I've ordered. Have you seen anything to catch your attention?

The majority of the G5 systems I am putting together now will have 14 drive 2.52TB Xserve RAID storage for HD or multiuser SD.

The smaller G5 SD systems are going with the 480GB Medea RTR.

If you only need single stream uncompressed SD a 2 drive FireWire 800 RAID may work for you, then again why not just work in DV50 or PhotoJPEG.

PhotoJPEG on HIGH using a DeckLink is just a tad softer than 8bit uncompressed and works fine with a single drive.

    Cheers Jonathan,

I'm looking forward to the G5 showing up, I only ever use FCP3 on my iBook to offline commercials, and online on other systems but may online on FCP now instead. I've been spoilt with multistream uncompressed for more than 10 years, but it's finally happening on desktop systems at a sensible price, just a matter of time really.
