In Memoriam
I have just come home after watching my partner of thirty five years die. She was mainly fine this afternoon but from 7 pm went rapidly downhill. An x-ray showed a collapsed lung and Pneumonia it was so unpleasant to watch someone you love struggle for breath, how helpless you feel.
Why she clung too life these last few hours I will never know, there was nothing practical the medical profession could do as even putting her in intensive care on a ventilator would only have prolonged the inevitable. I am grateful that she did not suffer but god I am going to miss her.
In certain respects death was quick as in a few short hours she went from a patient with COPD and an infection to a woman struggling to live.
Later I must begin the practicalities of deaths aftermath and phone all her friends though we tend to accept death a little more easily given we are after all getting on, but it is still sad.
Today I saw the true face of the NHS who could not have handled the whole sad business any better with professionalism but very caring.
Weird aside my cat has just jumped up on my lap, something she has never done in the 5 years we have had her.
Thanks for listening, delete if inappropriate.
