Im looking at replacing my aging LG 50pg6000 with a 55" smart and am currently looking for reviews and advice.
I'm looking at spending around £1000 and am not sure if I should be looking at a 4k or just a good 1080p. It gets mainly used for watching sky, playing PS4 and Blu-Ray films. Most films I watch are of the horror type so a lot of dark screens!!

So far i have realised that the best place to purchase from is either Richersounds or John Lewis due to the 5/6 year warranty.

    The choices so far are:
    1080 option = SONY BRAVIA KDL55W8

    4K Options = LG 55UF770V
    PANASONIC VIERA TX55CX680B
    SAMSUNG UE55JU6400

The only problem is I can't find reviews of any of the 4k options.

Does anyone out there know of any or can offer recommendations on any of the above or ones whih I may have missed out?

    Cheers

Samsung UE55JU6400 (JU6400) Ultra HD 4K TV Review | AVForums The review is baffled by the motion handling numbers but don't seem to know this is 'only' a 50(60)Hz model :D (hence no 3D as well). Nevertheless looks like a solid buy but low contrast probably meant poor(er) blacks.
Panasonic is looking good this year: Panasonic TX-50CX680E : Test complet
Best for motion is probably the Sony (sports) but also has excellent blacks ...
The only 'but' regarding the Panasonic is if the 55" is a direct- rather than edge-lit LED model so try and see in a store if the 55" is thicker from the side than the 50" ...

I haven't seen a UF770 so can't comment on it, but I'd say the Sony or Panasonic - both are excellent. The Samsung is good, but the colour seems to be slightly "processed" to my eyes (in "natural" mode), and viewing angles are noticably narrower.

Cheers for the advice, I'm going to go for the Sony KDL55W8. John Lewis have it in stock for £649, which with the 5 year warranty I think is pretty good.
