Apocalypse Now Final Cut 4K Blu-ray Review & Comments

Ive had the collectors edition on order from Zavvi since May. Today I notice the delivery date has changed to December 31st! Has anyone actually received the collectors edition yet from Zavvi or seen the date change like my order seems to have?
Mine is still showing as processing, but I can’t see any delivery date. It was £5 more expensive than amazon so now I’m thinking of just ordering from Amazon anyway.

Do you know if you are able to cancel Zavvi orders whilst they are still showing as processing?

Best thing is live chat or ring them. Never cancelled this late myself. At least you my get a answer about release date.
Just logged into my account. All my orders say processing and my next one not due for a fortnight.

I’ve cancelled it. Apparently as long as it’s not showing “in warehouse” or “dispatched” you can cancel.

Got the confirmation email, but I’ll still keep an eye out in case they bill me. Don’t think they can argue though if they’ve emailed me confirming it.

My Amazon pre order email says 21st September estimated delivery. Fine with that. I can wait a few days. Saved me £7 in the end as well.

I noticed Amazon had stock earlier so I’ve ordered from there. Will cancel from Zavvi once I see a dispatch notice from Amazon...

I chased up my Zavvi order, got an email today saying dispatched. I remember now why I've only used them 3 times since 2015....

Yeah they just decided to send mine this morning - delivery time? Next week! Having a laugh. Yeah I got it cheaper but I wont be doing this again unless its an exclusive I really want (the T2 steelbook for instance).

Well they delivered it yesterday after all that but I still had to wait longer than just about everywhere else.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago from Amazon. Tested out all the UHD’s and extras disks to see if they worked, but won’t be able to give it a proper watch for a week or so.

What I did notice was that the opening shot of the helicopters going across the sky while the trees burned looked appalling! I know there is going to be grain, but the sky in particular looked a noisy mess. Worse than an old DVD . As soon as that scene ended though and it cut to Martin Sheen in the room it looked great. Weird.

Anyone else notice or is just my disk/set up?

The white sky does highlight the grain, but it improves, it’s a lovely transfer.
I stuck on casino (almost half it’s age) after having a quick look at Apocs first 20 mins and it looks like it was filmed yesterday in comparison but considering the age and conditions Francis had to film in, it’s the best it’s ever going to look / sound, so enjoy !

Any idea where you can still get the version with all 3 cuts of the film in UHD? It looks like the non-special edition is only going to be Final Cut in UHD...

Thanks! Ordered just now...

I’m sure you’re right: 1x UHD Final Cut,1x BD Final Cut and 1x BD Extras, but Amazon are still listing all 3 cuts and we all know how infallible they are! So I’m waiting a tad longer....just to be sure.

Rented Final Cut on iTunes last night, to see if I truly want to buy this set, as it's a looong time since i've watched this movie, & one must walk gently with memories ;)
Fantastic clarity, grain still there correctly, & the Atmos used wonderfully to envelope you, and not to ram "Hey, I'm an Atmos Film" down your throat.
My only ouch! moment I guess would be the music for the
love interlude at the French Villa
- very cheesy for nowadays.
Really stunning.

So has anyone got the ‘budget’ version yet and can confirm it’s just the final cut? Misleading info on various sites including the ‘other forum’!

Watching this now and quite simply it’s incredible, picture quality is on a par with blade runner and the sound is like nothing i’ve heard before. The scenes with the cavalry are immense and the constant whirring of the helicopters is so hypnotic, immersion wouldn’t do it justice.I’m in awe of Francis Ford Coppola’s film making skill and so glad it was made in the 1970’s, if it were done today i’m In little doubt it would be another effects driven bore.
I have a fair few movies in my 4k collection and if I had to pick one out it’s this one. Couldn’t pay it a bigger compliment, as the reviewer notes is must own materiel.

I've got the same problem - Amazon lists the £20 "standard" 4K UHD version as containing all three cuts of the film. Is that correct, or is the only way to track down the theatrical (and Redux) cuts in 4K to track down a copy of the 6-disc collectors edition? Cheers

Well I couldn’t resist going for the 3 discer from hive at £10.85. If it is just the final cut I’ll live with it at that price! Never really wanted all the extra stuff anyway.

Ah OK. It's the theatrical cut I'm most keen to get in 4K, so looks like I'm going to have to pay through the nose for the out-of-print collector's edition then!!

That's good to know, thanks! Does that set have exactly the same as the UK set? And I'm assuming the blu-rays in that set are Reg A?

Or wait a tad longer for confirmation about the 3 discer;I assume it’s just the final: 1x4K, 1x2K ,and 1x extras, has no one got it yet?

Same as the UK set. Blu's say all regions (not that I've tested them). The digibox is slightly different in that it it doesn't have a slip to go into and only the Final cut 4k and BD have disc art whereas the UK set all discs have it.

That's what I assumed about the 3-discer as well, as blu-ray.com list it as 1 x BD-100 and 2 x BD-50 whereas the 6-disc set is listed as 2 x BD-100 which (I assume) covers all three cuts in 4K/UHD

Excellent - thanks for letting me know. I can't see me getting a copy of the UK set for less than £24 so unless anyone can confirm that the theatrical (and redux) are included on the 4K 3-disc set, I'll go for the US set. Haven't seen the Final Cut yet, and the Redux I found interesting but not essential, so its the theatrical cut I always go back to.

According to recent Amazon customer reviews, the £20 version only has 2 discs, a 4K disc and a BR disc. Both only have the Final Cut version on them. Not sure how accurate this really is, but the do seem to be verified customers.

You have to read those reviews with a fine tooth comb as amazon has consolidated the reviews for the Final cut to include the 6 disc collectors edition, the later UHD, the blu-ray and the DVD releases all together :(

Agreed, but I haven't seen any other reviews and it does look suspiciously like there is only the Final Cut version on this cheaper version. Hopefully someone else on here will get a copy soon and report back with some reliable details.

I decided not to take the chance and went for the 6 disc version instead.

The Uk 3 disc version has the final cut in 4k, the final cut on blu Ray and hearts of darkness on blu Ray. There’s no other version of the film in this set.
