Does anyone have any specific details as to the additional content of this version.

    Is it a coherent film?

    I'd appreciate any info.

    God have mercy

Redux was great but that plantation scene dragged a bit. I cant believe 140 more minutes will achieve anything:confused:

What is this version? Is it new or old? Will it be released on DVD? Where did you hear about it?

    Cheers.

Lex the 5 1/2 hr rough cut is an genuine work print created by Coppola himself back in 78. It is not available on DVD and is not sanctioned by the studio.

It does turn up on VHS tapes at trade shows and on Ebay. Let us say that the legality of the product is questionable.

The quality is supposed to be fair but it is the content that I am trying to determine. There are a lot of urban legends about what it contains. Martin Sheen killing a baby, Dennis Hopper's shotgun execution. The airstrike at the end is alledgedly shown (not like the explosions that run over the credits of some versions). There is also a visit to a field hospital and a scern when Sheen steals Killgores surfboard.

I've looked at a few websites, but fans are a bit cagey about things as the copy is a "pirate".

So can anyone enlighten us any further.

The scene where Sheen steals Kilgores surfboard is in the Redux version. So there is no need to hunt around for the 'rough cut' version for that.

I recently saw Redux on DVD. I haven't seen the original. After reading all the comments about this film I simply had to see it. In the end, I was very dissapointed. To put it simply, I thought this film was garbage! I love Full Metal Jacket and Platoon so it can't be the type of film. Overall, I felt the film was very boring and apart from a few key scenes, lacked any adrenaline. I know it's meant to be subtle and thought provoking but who in their right mind would want to see a 5.5 hour version of such rubbish (no offense intended).

That'll get you guyz talking. *Getting ready to be flamed*

I'd watch 5 and a half hours of Apocalypse Now. And I wouldn't take a pop at someone that didn't like it.

Funnily enough, I've never thought of my mind as "right"

If I can get myself numb enough I'd possibly go through 5 1/2 hrs of it, but unlikely.:)
The Redux is my maximum. I like the film as a whole. Playboy bunnies are enough for me.

Among those 'in the biz' (film sound biz that is) Apocalypse Now comes top of every poll. Entirely due to Walter Murch. I rather doubt a 5 1/2 rough cut would contain the same sound design magic. Without it I'm not sure I'd want to view.
