yep iv been there, and for the hdr hc7 (hdv cam) it only has a download for the vista update.

Why ( exactly) do you want motion picture browser?

I have the Sony HDR HC1 and Fx1 neither of which came with any software

I used to think that invariably any software bundled with a camcorder was... "so so" at best

He needs the software because that is currently the easiest way to get the AVCHD footage from the camcorder onto a PC, without having to buy additional and possibly expensive software.

I would also like to be able to download it, as I am currently unable to find my own installation CD and the existing install has stopped working.

I have e-mailed Sony about this, but so far no reply.

If anyone knows where the full software can be downloaded from I would also be grateful.

:lease:

This thread started by reffering to the HC7 which being an HDV model does not record in AVCHD . Any PC with firewire should enable downloading with HDV. At any rate HDV camcorders generally do not not with any discs or software . Even if MPB came with the HC7 it would be for downloading stills, This can just as easily be done via a USB media reader.. and no software

Which camcorder do you refer to?
I thought ( think still) that you can download the footage without the software, in the same way you can copy off mpeg2 files of HDD of Sonys Standard def HDD models
They ( the SD models) are simply seen as a "drive" in My computer and the files copied by drap / drop or copy paste, once the camcorder is attached to the PC by USB
Even if it not immediately seen, it would be windows drivers , rather than MPB that would enable recognition of the camcorder by the PC

If not I imagine someone on here might be able to copy their CD and post it to you
Sony it seems, doesn't not give it away:( Even for some updates they require the serial no of the camcorder and part no of your original disc
However, Sony Vegas 8 software is a viable alternative , you can try it by using the trial version

Have you lost or broken your personal copy of Sony Picture Motion Browser ? Send a PM
Not just to try out though

HEEELP I REALLY NEED THE PICTURE MOTION BROWSER!!!

if anyone has it please e-mail me at: ***
please, I want to get my videos out of my camcorder. I have even called sony and looked all over the internet!!!! Please....

I bought a Sony Handi Cam, or rather it was bought for me. The box was all taped up as if it were returned to the store or something. I never realized it until later that it was supposed to come with the picture motion browser. I emailed Sony after registering and they replied by saying, it should have been in the box. I emailed them back saying it wasnt and never heard anything back. I went back to the store I got it from, Walmart, hoping they could give me the software from another box. Said they couldnt. I showed them my box and how it was taped up and told them, well someone did it to mine and they said they would have a manager call me. That didnt happen either.
I wanted the software because the file format my disks are burned to wont work in any editing software I have. Id like to take my home movies and add music etc to them but I cant find a converter that works and I cant get the dang software that should have come with my cam.

Which Handy cam is it? Tape, HDD or Memory Stick.
Also is it Standard Def or High Def?
Not all Sony camcorders come with any software anyway but it is a lesson to (if possible) open a package and check in store to see that it is complete before leaving.
I do however sympathise with you regarding Sonys PMB.. It is by no means special but it is worth having and I think Sony should make it downloadable on thier website but they chose not to.

If we host it or directly link it when they don't, we open ourselves to accusation of distributing their intellectual property when they are not:lesson:

As such it is the Forums Policy not to be seen to be openly promoting this whatever our private and personal views
It is certainly silly if you can provide them with a Camcorders serial no and sale receipt to not give you the CD if one was supplied.
I can understand their paranoia regarding Piracy but surely if the software is to be used on a Sony camcorder that would represent supporting a customer. Apart from a mistake during the packing , it is just as easily possible to lose or damage the CD.. then what?

Well im having problems too, i bought my Handy cam this christmas, did all my amature filming, but my troubles started when i tried to install the software, "picture motion browser". i followed all the instruction as the book said, it took quite a while but it looked like it was installing, i got to the end and let it restart the pc. this is when i noticed it was talking a long time to come back on, it eventually came back to windows, and started shooting error messages, it had changed my window setting from the normal xp setting back to classic setting, after a few error message my pc slowly came back to life, but i couldnt go on the internet, when i used windows explorer, it crashed. pc just went dead slow, and prety much nothing worked as normal. i tried to uninstall the software it would allow it, tried to do a system restore, that didnt work either. in the end i had to log in safe mode to do a system restore. and today agin i thought i would give it another tried, maybe i did something wrong last time, and again same thing happens. so unlike everyone else i happen to have the software CD , but it is useless to me. and i need the software its the only way to edit video from my camcorder ( well the only way I know off anyway) cos ive tried other software available on the internet, and they dont work. Please help

Which sort of handy cam is yours?
There is no format that cannot be edited by Software other than PMB

the handycam is DCR-DVD106
if there is another program out there that can export the picture from my camcorder onto my PC, I would grately appreciate it.
I have called 3 different sony help lines, the first one told me to download it from sony website, but it turns out all the software there are upgrades, and when i tried to install them, it keeps telling me the software is not install on my pc so it cannot upgrade, the second line was sony parts retailer, that wants to charge me £65 pounds for the disk. the last one was sony headoffice, and after the first rude assitant the supervisor came on and still told me to go back to my seller. and of course that was the first place i went and had no joy and they are the ones who gave me the helpline numbers in the first place.

sorry for ranting on like a loonytic.

There are lots of editing packages, pretty much all of them will be able to edit your DVD camcorder footage. Some are easier to use than others; with some you need to rename the .VOB files to .MPG. You can copy files off the camcorder if is has USB; or (generally easiest way) finalise the disc and pop it in your PC's DVD drive.

You could trial some packages. One option is Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, download from here
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/product.asp?pid=447
With this, you can use the "open DVD camcorder disc" function to access your videos.

This is a pretty old thread I see but Ive have the same problem. I bought a Sony HDR-CX7 HD camcorder in Iraq and left the dang CD-Roms there. So I called sony but they told me I would have to spend $60.00 for a new cd. No way I'm paying that. Last time I buy anything from sony:mad:

But anyway I found a torrent that has it and Im trying to DL it right now but none of the seeders are uploading very fast.
But just beware! make sure you virus scan or whatever before you install! I havnt finished this DL yet so I have no idea if it's legit or not. When it's done I'll edit this post and say whether its any good or not.

Anyway it's available here:
(well just found out I cant publicly post the URL. So.... if you need it just PM me and I will get back to you as soon as I can with it)

Hope that helps someone!

Yes, same needed here. I have an SR7. I've got the software on my PC but want to install it onto my laptop as well..and I've gone and lost the disc :suicide:

It's a great little tool for categorising, importing and viewing AVCHD. I don't really want to buy one of those flashy pants apps :)

hi guys,

sorry i havent been keeping an eye on this thread. what i did do in the past for someone that pmd me was that i uploaded the disc in 2 parts on rapid share for him to download. after my effort in getting that uploaded he wasnt able to use the disc with his camera - i have the hdr hc7 and he had a dvd version of the recent high def series - but he couldnt use the software with his camera as it said it wasnt compatible.

if you have the same model then that would work i guess...
