Ok I have read every single thread about this on the forums..

Been to JL to see it.

It looks nice, but the PQ at JL is appalling.

I don't suppose anyone either in Surrey or Central London has a Sharp LC26GA4E and Freeview and would mind giving me a demo?

Everyone says you have to take it home and tweak the settings etc. before the true picture quality comes out.

I don't want to blow £1000 and get home and realise that I am not happy with the PQ.

I don't have hi-def material, I won't be connecting it to my computer, I hardly watch DVDs. I will only be watching Freeview through it. I will probably connect my Xbox to it .. but then again I don't have that much time to play it either!

Is a Freeview source high enough quality to justify buying this LCD? My Freeview box has component out.

Should I look at getting a scaler to improve the PQ as well?

Please PM me if you could be so kind to help convince me.

    Regards,

    Ho yin

I'm totally new here but I would never buy a LCD just to watch TV with a cable...

Plasma and CRT did look much better in my opinion with the free cable material they provided in the shops.

If you freeview box has component out and you have a good signal then you wull get a cracking picture.

This TV has lots of features and is future proof. So just because you are not going to use some of them now, you may well do in the future.

I am delighted with mine. It is on the wall now, cables hidden and looks the muts nuts, with a picture to match.

    You won't be disappointed.

    Cheers

    Paul

Blossom have you got a pic of it on the wall? What freeview box do you have? I wasn't aware of any that had component out.

    Paul,

Cheers, I have just PM'ed you.

Though I think telling the picture quality from a photo is going to be difficult.

I am more concerned I think about fast movement or watching detailed moving images such as football.

But it would still be good to see how good it can look in a photo!

I have a Netgem iPlayer which has a scart that gives component out.

I think it is one of the few? or only? Freeview box that does this.

After much deliberation I was going to purchase one today. Called into John Lewis in Bristol to get a price match but no point as they have none in stock and were unable to tell me when or even if they were getting any more.

A 26" LCD is, generally speaking, the same screen size as a 28" CRT right? My parents have a 28" CRT in their living room and that is pretty good size I think so may go with the 26"! Will try and have a look at it the shops first though.

I don't know if it helps but I was in JL Kingston a few days back. They had an LC26GA4E running in their home cinema "demo room". It was being fed a Kerrang TV feed, zoomed to 16:9 ... and I must say, it looked quite splendid, even at relatively close viewing and in overall dark conditions. If it wasn't for the price (>1200 IIRC) I may have brought one there and then :)

Some of the other sets meanwhile looked quite horrible (as I would expect for even a CRT being fed a zoomed music channel!) with the same signal. Of course it may have just been me, to everyone else here it may be attrocious.

Picked my GA3E up tonight (same spec as GA4E with bottom speaker) for 899 from Robert Whyte  - knocked a further 100 off in the sale and it's buy now pay later plus the 5 year warranty  good deal?

Am writing this email using the 1360x768 PC-DVI mode. It's awesome!! Need to tweak the 6800GT drivers and adjust the freeview RGB/Scart settings but initial impressions are great.

It was the last one available. I would have paid £999 but the guy showed me a local press advert at £899 so I wasn't going to argue!! Guess they just wanted to clear the shelves for GA5/GA6. Makes a change to get lucky!!

I am still waiting for my price match .. sigh ...

How long does it usually take? I asked for one on Friday ... but still waiting.

Do they ring you or send you a letter?

Meanwhile I am now thinking about changing my mind and buying a cheap 28" Philips CRT for £300 inc vat and delivery. As I think in 2 years time i will not be in this country anymore.
