Anyone Using Sky Plus TV On Their Mac?

Hi All,

I want to watch the Cricket World Cup during June and am not a regular Sky subscriber. I have a Macbook Pro and am happy to watch it on this as long as it is of good quality and a decent size window - certainly hoping it will not be a small window like on you-tube as that would not make for enjoyable cricket watching!

Do any Mac users have experience of using Sky-Player? If so, does it suffer from slow loading/buffering and choppy pics or freezing that can be so annoying?

Thank You!

Just had a look on the sky website as I didn't know that this was now available on the mac (which it is now)

Sky say they provide a choice of three picture quality levels to suit your broadband connection so I would guess you should be able to get a good quality picture.

You do know that it will cost at least £34 a month to get sky sports.

Hi!

Thanks for that! I meant Sky Player instead of Sky Plus - Sorry! £34 a month? That is a bit steep!! If anyone is using it, let me know what you think!

Hi,

Well, wasted most of the day trying to get SKY to help me install the basic freaking thing and nothing but a nightmare - been given the runaround multiple time! First person helped me set up an account and then got lost when it got to dealing with the Mac part of things, then a specialist was supoosed to call within 15 mins and 3 hours later I called them! I got sent to and fro a number of times to different techs between TV and broadband and then was put on hold till the phone cut off. Finally called again and they told me that Sky-Player was not working! I am at my wits end!

Luckily, I only need it for a month and only for Sky Sports 1 & 2 for the Cricket World Cup. I installed the Microsoft Silverlight Plug-in and now need to figure out how to get the channels working on my Intel Macbook Pro. I will try and call them again tomorrow and see if I have better luck! If I cab find someone who subscribes to SkySports on TV, can I use their ID on my MBP to view the channels?

I would use it a lot of you could download movies and entertainment shows - there I loads of films I could watch on the train! Wonder when a deal can be reached to make it work on Macs. At the moment can watch Sky News and if I shelled out for Broadband Max or multi room I could watch a load more channels which could come in handy when there is competition for the TV.

I use it a fair bit without any issues on a Macair, Pro and iMac.

Was at the in-laws at the weekend :boring: on the Air pretending to be working and watched all the end of season footy on Sky Sports.

As Im a subscriber at home with Sky, doesnt cost me a penny.

Rumour is that they are working on an it being compatible with the iPhone at some point in the future - that would be good!

Just my 2p worth

I had no problem installing the silverlight plugin, and have been watching trouble free at work for the last few months

As for the quality, spot on

When I was a teen, I was jealous of the bloke down the road who had Sky in his bedroom and now, 10 years later, I've sort of got Sky in my room, as well. :D

I'd love to sign up to the Sports channels but £34 a month?  That's £10 more than my Internet costs!

Oh, go on then. :D

Well - I've just got it working in XP in Boot Camp.

Installed Silverlight and the Sky Player software and it works fine.

Haven't tried installing it under OS X yet but it should work?

The channels I can view with the Entertainment (added as standard) and Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and Xtra packages (optional) are:

G.O.L.D
Sky Real Lives
MTV One
Sky Sports 1
Sky Sports 2
Sky Sports 3
Sky Sports Xtra
Sky Sports News
Eurosport UK
Sky News
National Geographic
Nat Geo Wild
Eden
Nickelodeon
Disney Channel
Nick Jr

I can confirm that it works fine for me under OS X.

Just watched the whole of the British Lions rugby on Sky Sports 1. :)

Had it on High setting for the majority of the game and I reckon it's used up 800MB of my allowance.
